PSOne input question: multi-AV or mini-jack?

I want to hook my PSOne LCD upto my graphics card, but for the time being, I don't want to do a full VGA (actually DVI-I analog, probably) mod.

In practice which input have people found easier to use? The mini-jack on the back, or the multi-AV on the front?

For example:
a) get a mini-jack to composite video cable (does such a cable for s-video exist?)?...then just use a composite out from the graphics card into the mini-jack?

or

b) get a multi-AV cable (I've never seen a female-ended multi-AV...do such exist?) and just use the composite from the graphics card?

Thanks!
Xylo

(P.S., I *am* searching through the forums, but having a hard time really finding what I am trying to figure out.)

If it is an official screen, do the vga hack: http://tidder.rudyatek.com/lcd/

I have never seen av females or anything, and idk if that would work.

composite or s-video would probably not be worth it, as the screen would be unreadble in most situations.

Ps- why do u hesitate to do the vga hack?

How good are the PSone's? I'm looking for an affordable screen now and a PSone screen seems pretty nice.

I don't fully understand yet the csync problem, so I don't have a good solution in advance yet...shrug...we'll see.

The official Sony "psone" screen is the same as the "Verge" and "Zenith" gamescreens (Samsung LTS500Q1-GF1). The only difference is that they're missing the "input board" found in the "psone" units. That shouldn't be a problem though since I found a nice wiring diagram at a french site which applies to all of these screens.

Oh yeah, here a pic of my Zenith with rca inputs added to the side. You could just as easily add s-video, vga, or component.

Hm.... these seem interesting. There not VGA, but there affordable enough... Can anyone give me some input on the quality too? Anything about using this as a main screen?

Option A is the way to go, if you're using composite video, as the mult-AV jack uses composite video as the sync signal, and therefore probably wouldn't work. Hmm.. come to think of it, I've never tried doing it that way... I guess I'll experiment later, as I have a Composite+Stereo/Multi-AV cable. You can get a simple adapter to go from S-Video to composite, though you won't get the full quality of S-Video.

Thanks for the replies...

Now, does anyone know of a S-video to the mini-jack cable or connector?...

You'll need to stack the S-Video to composite and the composite to mini-jack adapter to get what you want, or build your own cable with the needed capacitor in it.

It really annoys me that Sony didn't choose a controller IC that accepts SVideo input... Otherwise you could just use the SVideo signal from your video card and get a good enough image... *sigh

They did. Check the data sheet for the AN2526 linked from here: http://benheck.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=72847

Page 3, application circuit example 2 show a component taking a luminance and a chroma signal.

In fact, just check that benheck page for how to do the s-video mods. This was previous dicussed on mp3car here : http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-display/56240-s-video-psone-screen-info.html

Oh yeah, I have confirmed that using composite through the multi-A/v jack doesn't work, so you have to use the mini-jack for composite.
