Free Charachter LCDs!
Hey guys, just thought I might let you know. Data International (www.datainternational.com) has a huge line of really nice hd44780 char lcds. I was just looking for a distributor in the northeast us so i emailed the sales department and the guy offered to send me a free sample! i'll make you guys go to the site and find the sales rep's e-mails yourselfs  happy wiring....

actually, it is a backlit version. they asked me which i wanted in what color, etc, etc. so :P

The guy just e-mailed me back,
I gave him my address, and my EL backlight preference, and asked for a cable that would plug into the LCD and to the Parrallel port if they have one.
Do EL backlights come in different colors?

I am getting a free sample 4x40 EL backlit LCD, I told them it was for a highschool electronics class to display information from the computer, which is true!
Its displaying pc info and songtitles, and I am going to show it to the Electronics class at school when I finish

did maxim stop giving out 787's?? i ordered several different kinds of samples and the 787's were noticably missing. man, now i'm kinda mad they found me out =) anyone know where else to get these?

you just have to come up with a good story.
I also ordered the free samples.. 2*788 and 2*787. I got 2*788 and 4*787. Guess I'm lucky
Just tell them you're a student or something.

Don't get too attached to those "Free" samples!
I just got an e-mail back from sales, who informed me that the terms of the samples require that you return them promptly and pay for shipping! Also he said he couldn't give me one yet (but would be happy to later) because the 'demo units' were on allocation.
Watch out for that datainternational hitman =)

ps: thanks for the info on the 787s... i think i'll get lucky, i ordered some surface mount components with them and used my university e-mail =)

hey, maybe they just got wise =)
actually I told him I wanted a 40x4 to eval, and he told me they don't have any because there is "no demand" ?!
if you get the display in the mail, it will be a sign that you should keep it =)
