Question Specific wiring schematic 4 Optrex DMC40457?

I purchased a 40X4 LCD from Amtrex.com.au and wired it up according to the 40X4 LCD wiring diagram going around. I connected it to a powers source and nothing. The only thing that showed up was the backlight. I've gone over it a million times and cannot find a problem with my wiring. I'm wondering if the wiring diagram im using is incorrect. Because the wiring diagram and my data sheet do not line-up, i feel like i've been guessing the pin layouts for connecting it to the parallel port. My question is, Is the standard wiring diagram correct for my LCD, and has anyone else had this problem with regards to using a standard wiring diagram and having to re-arrange the pins? Do i need to use a specific wiring diagram for the Optrex DMC40457?

Hi MP3MAN,
Send me an e-mail of your wiring diagram, the pinout of the display, and the data sheet, and I'll see if I can help you!

Hi MP3MAN,
By the way it is mikep56@earthlink.net. That would probably help!

You sure your pentiometer isn't just set all the way down?

That was my problem.

Some 4x40's require -5V for contrast, so, um, yea. Check that in the datasheet. Do you have a link to the datasheet, or can you send it to me?

Hi MP3MAN,
I got your e-mail, but when I try to open the data sheet, Acrobat says that there is an error. Please either resend the data sheet or just list all the pins and their functions.

These are the pins. I know they are all there, its just I cant figure out which pins go to where. On the wiring schematic for a 40X4, all these pins are listed, and they are wired accordingly. But i still cant work out why it wont work!!
And seeing as how this will be the final touches on my mp3 car, i cant wait to get it to work, hence my desperation.

I've heard that the length of cable used can be a factor....should i try it with a smaller cable first?
