damn there's always gotta be a glitch huh. Let me know if you figure out the hibernation issue.

So you're saying we need to use the intel embedded drivers for this to work? If they cause machines to hang on hibernation, we might be able to get intel to help us with that.

thanks for the work!

Yeah... I've been too lazy to communicate with intel because I've decided just to go with 800x600 anyways because too many applications put up dialog boxes that scroll off the screen if the vertical is below 600. Feh.

I thought that might happen.

I think that might be why xenarc has not been any help on this issue. There's just no winning.

Just a quick question, with your mpfl8 and 700tsv is there vga noise, horizontal lines going up your screen associated with activity on the pc? ie the picture is clear when not doing anything but if you move the mouse, or play a cd, the noise is visible? Just asking because of the dozen or so systems I've built with these products, I ALWAYS have this same noise, just to a different degree. Are you using a carnetix power supply?

cheers

No noise. Probably because I do have everything running off a regulated Carnetix 1290.

I always do to, but I always get a bit of noise. Only on the 7 inch screens.

I tried Merzbow hack with a intel 855 chip and I manged to set it to 800x480 resolution with a Intouch K301 lcd. The only problem now is that it is not stretched to top and bottom of screen, it's like 10% missing at top and bottom.

I tried to play with some of the settings below in the registry but was only able to move picture down to bottom (missing 20% at top).

Anyone know how to attack this one? What value(s) is controlling the stretch?

from the regfile with params:
; 38550
"PixelClock"=dword:9696
; 800
"HorzActive"=dword:320
; 40
"HorzSync"=dword:28
; 80
"HorzSyncPulse"=dword:50
; 0
"HorzBorder"=dword:0
; 232
"HorzBlank"=dword:e8
; 480
"VertActive"=dword:1e0
; 61
"VertSync"=dword:3d
; 3
"VertSyncPulse"=dword:3
; 0
"VertBorder"=dword:0
; 142
"VertBlank"=dword:8e
; 25
"HorzSize"=dword:19
; 16
"VertSize"=dword:10
; 0
"Flags"=dword:0

I tried this with my xenarc pc and lcd. it doesn't work quite right but after playing around with power strip. I figure out if i change the following thing:

; 38550
"PixelClock"=dword:9696

to

; 38400
"PixelClock"=dword:9600

It works great without the need of using powerstrip anymore. Also my xenarc computer now could hypernate without a problem. It has the 865 chipset. Finally i can get the resolution i want and a fast/small computer =). I hope this help if anyone in the same problem.

I'll have to try this once I get back from Bimmerfest... how did you figure this one change was the key?

I hope it work out for you the way it did for me. I played around the the scan rate the refresh rate in powerstrip to get the right pixelclock number that i wanted. then just remove the decimal and convert it to hex. I also had trouble getting back from hibernation when i use powerstrip. That is when i decided just modify the registry with the new infos and stop powerstrip all together. luckly it works out nicely and fast also.

Can I just tell you that you're my hero! I spent hours agonizing over how to get 800x480 on my Aopen MiniPC and Xenarc 700TSV. None of the usual solutions worked. Powerstrip did not let me adjust custom timings. The non-native resolution was killing me. Thank you VERY MUCH for taking the time to post this solution!!!

The Intel driver has a bunch of built-in timings that it uses by default when it encounters a monitor without EDID, apparently. These default timings of course don't include 800x480.

However, by specifying certain registry entries, you can tell the debug Intel driver in the Embedded Drivers kit (but NOT the release Extreme drivers, I think) NOT to use the default timings and instead use timings that YOU supply. These registry entriesare defined in the documentation included with the kit.

The necessary registry entries consist of some values to force the driver to override its defaults, and the timing data itself. The PowerStrip screenshot in the FAQ section at the Xenarc web page gave me the timings I needed to get 800x480 out of my Xenarc monitor. The Intel driver wants the data in a slightly different format, but conversion was easy. There were two values I didn't understand (HorizSize and VertSize), so I took examples from the Intel documentation (luckily they had one for horizontal at 800 and vertical at 480) and they worked.

I've included a screenshot of my desktop with PowerStrip open to demonstrate that I've (almost) exactly matched the canonical timings from the Xenarc site. Of course by forcing this timing you cannot change FROM 800x480 because the driver is telling Windows that there ARE no other resolutions, but who cares. It looks spectacular, so much better than ugly scaled 800x600.

If you've got a different monitor than the Xenarc 7", you're on your own. These timings may or may not work for you. You'll have to dig up the actual timings from the manufacturer or whatever and convert them yourself.

I've included the .reg file containing the registry changes. Note that THIS REGISTRY FILE WILL NOT WORK FOR YOU AS-IS. Follow these (completely untested by anyone else) directions:

1. Download the Intel Embedded Drivers kit from here and unzip it:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...=2159&lang=eng

2. UNINSTALL your existing Intel Extreme drivers and reboot. You must reboot now.
3. Run Setup.exe from the Utilities directory and choose to install the driver. Don't reboot yet.
4. Open my .reg file in a text editor. Notice that in the pathname of the registry keys in my .reg file you'll see a GUID. This GUID is different for every installation. To find out what it is on your machine, open Regedit and browse to:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video

Under there will be some registry key whose name is the GUID, which has a subkey named '0000' that contains a value named 'Device Description' that is set to this string:

"Intel Corporation 865 Embedded Graphics Driver"

This is the key you will be modifying. Take the GUID from the name of this key and overwrite the old GUIDs in my .reg file with it.

Good luck. Hopefully others can expand upon and improve this extremely hacky method. If you don't have an 865 chipset but some other 8xx chipset from Intel, you maybe have to perform more extensive modification of the .reg file. Use the brain that God gave you.

I also finally manged to get my 855 to work with the K301. The major key was to change the HorzBlank plus some other minor changes to get it 100%. Hibernation also working fine.

Anyway, here is another working setup:

Oh crap. So hibernate works fine once. But when I come out of hibernate a second time (with no poweroff in the meantime), all the screen fonts become unreadable and the system becomes almost unresponsive. This ONLY happened after i started running 800x480 resolution. What did people do to get hibernate working perfectly???? Help.

"All I did" was to use the Intel driver, 01/15/2006,5.0.0.756, using 800x480 w 16bit. Using WinXP pro with default display theme (standard font).

Did not do anything speical to get my hibernation to work, guess I were lucky with my setup....I did configure hibernation before installing Intel GFX driver.

Did not have to re-install touch driver as someone mentioned. The hard job were to test different settings in the registry for the resolution.

Thanks Merzbow, your hack works great on my Aopen MiniPC, but my AU Optronix LCD thinks it's in 800x600 mode and the 800x480 is scrunched in the middle (letterboxed). Anyone know what might fix this?

It worked for me too, however, RoadRunner was very slow when switching between the different screens. Reinstalling the extreme graphics 2 driver fixed that issue. *sigh*
