Great post! I just got my aOpen MiniPC to finally display 800x480 on my Xenarc.

However, when I began playing DVD's or any other MPEG2 files I noticed that DirectX Video Acceleration doesn't seem to be available. Has anyone else noticed this or found a way to enable it? So far I've only tried the PureVideo decoder - I'm going to try DScalar and others after work (though maybe I'll put them on my USB drive and spend lunch in my car .

Thankfully MPEG4 and WM9HD seem to run quite well full screen with smooting and scaling applied correctly so I'm converting any music videos I have to Divx.

I had to install another copy of windows so at boot-up I can choose between the Embedded 800x480 or regular drivers and higher resolutions/DVD. Perhaps I can figure out how to get the driver INF configured so that it's possible to actually change resolutions without modifying the registry/rebooting.

Since I mostly use the PC for music, gps, and sometimes to play music videos I prefer to run at the native 800x480.

I was finally able to get DVD's/MPEG2 looking great but for that I have to use Zoom Player. These drivers seem to be really finicky about when they accelerate video.

Also, I figured out how to change resolutions - I now can change from 800x480 to 800x600 or 1024x768. Suffice it to say, I deleted the other windows installation and now am quite happy with this setup.

Basically I just made 2 more entries under the DTD\ registry key (see bold below) and now windows lets me select any of the three at any time. Great for when some pesky dialog window is unusable in native 800x480. You can of course add as many different resolutions as you like - I'm fine with these for now.

Hello

i tried this tweak on intel i915GM, and seems not to work
I can't get the 800x480 resolution , i get 720x480 .
My computer doesn't want to reboot , it freezes on parameters saving ( at the end )

Does someone have any idea to fix this ?

Thanks

I just went through your process and it hibernates without any problems.
thanks a lot man, great work!

Hello,

I need to translate this powerstrip settings into the driver registry values.

Can you help me identify what powestrip value goes where in these registry values?

PixelClock = Horizontal geometry Pixel clock
HorzActive = Horizontal geometry Active
HorzSync = Horizontal geometry Front porch
HorzSyncPulse = Horizontal geometry Sync width
HorzBorder = ?
HorzBlank = ?
VertActive = Vertical geometry Active
VertSync = Vertical geometry Front porch
VertSyncPulse = Vertical geometry Sync width
VertBorder = ?
VertBlank = ?
HorzSize = ?
VertSize = ?
Flags = ?

Thank you

Holy thread revival Batman!

Comparing the .reg file and Merzbow's screen shot, this is the correlation I see:

HorzBorder = stays zero
VertBorder = stays zero
Flags = stays zero

============================

HorzBlank = (Horizontal Total) minus (Horizontal Active)
VertBlank = (Vertical Total) minus (Vertical Active)

I'm not sure if the Total is calculated automatically by the PowerStrip utility or not - if it's not, I'm not exactly sure how to determine the HorzBlank/VertBlank values.

============================

HorzSize/VertSize: He was able to determine these numbers from the Intel documentation. But if you correlate your desired resolution with the numbers from Intel, you get:

HorzSize
Desired resolution: 800
Intel's matching HorzSize value = 25
800/25 = 32

VertSize
Desired resolution: 480
Intel's matching VertSize value = 16
480/16 = 30

So divide your desired horizontal resolution by 32 to get HorzSize, and divide desired vertical resolution by 30 to get VertSize.

Note: I am not responsible if you damage anything by using the above assumptions to modify advanced timings.

Question Interpretation of timings...

Ok i hv CTF-800 (bought from cartft - i live in Greece) and i'm trying to operate the monitor with Intel's 82865G graphics chipset... unfortunatelly, as mentioned, 865 does not support 800x480 resolution, so i'm trying to accomplish that via the hack which was mentioned before...

Looking for the CTF800's timings i found these:

CTF800 timings:
Pixel 33,6
H 37, 8, 43
V 15,3,16
800x480=800,37,8,43,480,15,3,16,33600,278

Generic timing details for 800x480:

HFP=37 HSW=8 HBP=43 kHz=38 VFP=15 VSW=3 VBP=16 Hz=74

VESA detailed timing details:

PClk=33,60 H.Active=800 H.Blank=88 H.Offset=21 HSW=8 V.Active=480 V.Blank=34
V.Offset=15 VSW=3

Linux modeline parameters:
"800x480" 33,600 800 837 845 888 480 495 498 514 -hsync -vsync

which i'm trying to interpet to that .reg file (specificly the bold ones):

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video\{71F7F719-E874-4707-9A40-55B83F887A1E}\0000\Config\1\Port\5\General]
"Rotation"=dword:00000000
"Flip"=dword:00000000
"Edid"=dword:00000000
"EdidNotAvail"=dword:4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video\{71F7F719-E874-4707-9A40-55B83F887A1E}\0000\Config\1\Port\5\Dtd\1]
; 38550
"PixelClock"=dword:9696
; 800
"HorzActive"=dword:320
; 40
"HorzSync"=dword:28
; 80
"HorzSyncPulse"=dword:50
; 0
"HorzBorder"=dword:0
; 232
"HorzBlank"=dword:e8
; 480
"VertActive"=dword:1e0
; 61
"VertSync"=dword:3d
; 3
"VertSyncPulse"=dword:3
; 0
"VertBorder"=dword:0
; 142
"VertBlank"=dword:8e
; 25
"HorzSize"=dword:19
; 16
"VertSize"=dword:10
; 0
"Flags"=dword:0

I know how to convert decimal to hex, but I cannot match the meaning of the numbers..

So, please somebody help me with the correct match...

ok..

I tried to match the quoted timings but i am not sure if they are correct:

PixelClock = Horizontal geometry Pixel clock ---------33600
HorzActive = Horizontal geometry Active ------------800
HorzSync = Horizontal geometry Front porch--------???
HorzSyncPulse = Horizontal geometry Sync width ---8
HorzBorder = ? -----------------------------------------0
HorzBlank = ? -------------------------------------------88
VertActive = Vertical geometry Active ---------------480
VertSync = Vertical geometry Front porch-----------???
VertSyncPulse = Vertical geometry Sync width -----3
VertBorder = ? -----------------------------------------0
VertBlank = ? ------------------------------------------34
HorzSize = ? -------------------------------------------25
VertSize = ? -------------------------------------------16
Flags = ? -----------------------------------------------0

Is these matching correct??

Furthermore i don't know which numbers match with HorzSync and VertSync (Front Porch for PowerStrip), noted above with "???". Please give me your knowledge..
