LCD off ebay, replacement connector cable?

Hello everyone! Been lurking on these forums about a year now, and have just started to build my own carputer + stereo in my car ( Just got my first one ).

But there is one big problem. I bough a 7" touch screen off ebay for $143 delivered on my door 2 days later from hongkong (I, myself live in Norway).

The screen connector cable did basically NOT strap on good enough on the screen. It kept falling off all the time, with barely no touching from me, or moving of the screen. Thats when i decided to take of the cover and bend the small "things" on it, so it would get stuck. It did. It sat so hard it did never fall off.

But now, one of the small iron things on the side, broke off, so it wont connect at all. back to the beginning.

What i want to ask is if someone knows about where i can get a replacement? Or if theres some possibility of soldering the VGA connector, usb connector etc directly on the screen. (prefer replacement cable).
I did send a mail to the seller on ebay with pictures, but never got a reply..

The seller was: mokey32021

his ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Hi-Tech-Electronics-Ltd

similar screen (only difference = brand): http://cgi.ebay.com/S-1016-7-XGA-TFT...QQcmdZViewItem

pictures of the screen + connector taken by me: www.xn--randm-pra.net/carputer/lcdproblem

THANK you very much for all your help... It will be worth alot for me..

Hi,

I don't have that same screen but I do have a Xenarc display which uses a similar (possibly identical) connector style. Mine never clipped on very well, the locking mechanism seemed defective. I looked online for electronics parts suppliers that would supply the connector.

I live in the UK and found that RS Components stock it, but it's extremely expensive.
here are the data sheets...
connector datasheet 1
connector datasheet 2

If you're good at soldering it should be possible for you to replace the broken connector.

Regards,
James

VGA Connector fix - 7" LCD DISPLAYS - XENARC S-1016 LILLIPUT

VGA CONNECTOR COMING UNDONE ON YOUR 7" TFT?

I would suggest just hot gluing the connector to the back until there's just a huge mound molded around the back of the display and the connector, securely holding it on. Be careful when applying hot glue as the temperature may affect the LCD, so use much care keeping this in mind while you're hot gluing it. The great thing about hot glue is you can cut it off with a razor if you really need to detach your work for a repair, etc. I would suggest using the hot glue method for new TFT displays as well, to prevent them from popping off due to the natural vibrations of your auto. It honestly amazes me that a company can create such a complex thing as a touch screen TFT, but can't make the connector stay attached! I'm really not sure the developers / manufacturers of these TFT display products truly intened for it to be used in such carputer applications. I really wish that other companies would make LCD's for this application, like Pioneer, LG, Sony, etc. so we wouldn't have to use these what are in my opinion, NO NAME branded LCD's.
