Post Paypal donation fund for the new R&D Department (motorized Lcd)

Hello All,
Theres a thread going on here about developing a motozied lcd unit. So, i would like to start a paypal fund to gather up money to do some Research and Development (R&D) for this idea. I will not being doing this, for I am not that tech savvy, so we will need to elect someone to do it. So, if you would like to donate 2-3 dollars or more to the project, leave your name and message here. I personally would like to donate 10 dollars on hopes of getting this working. There are 1870 registered users to this board and we could only get 100 or so to donate just 2-3 buxs, we would have plenty to make one of these things. So c'mon, donate to the cause people! Also, if you think you would be a good candidate to head up the project, leave a message here. Thanks everyone!
-Jason

And what do we get for our investment? You get a nice fold out screen. I lose a few bucks. Grants it only a few bucks a pack of cigs or a few cokes but still.

hi crazyshax,

I hope you're not gonna shoot me for this, but I think it's a stupid idea. I'm currently working on my motorized LCD and I'm getting somewhere. All I use are two steppermotor I ripped out of 2 old 51/4 floppydrives cost $0.00, a printercable I had lying around cost $0.00, a small print & 2 resistors also lying around cost still $0.00, two IC's (62003) 4 resistors & 2 diodes $1.25, one small switch to make sure the screen folds in allthe way when someone has forced it into a position without using the software. So subtotal is $1.25 on the electronics part. For the worm the costs are : 2big bolts 8mm $0.50 2 smallblocks off aluminium, got them for free when I bouight the bolts, couple of pieces of plexi I had lying around.

Total investment : $1.75 and some time.

Ok, so I know you proly don't want my idea because I can't use a "standard" motorized LCD because when the screen comes out of the dash it would proly crush my passagner sitting next to me. I'm using my mp3 car is a citroen 2CV, which is very tiny, and my screen is very big (12.1).

But...jssaggie idea is the solution for your quest. This is truly a good idea so no one has to think up another. His only uses one steppermotor, so you need only 1 diode, 3 resistors & one IC cutting my cost in half ( I use two SM so that I can adjust the rotating of the screen horizontaly And verticaly, this is neccesarry because my screen is located quite a bit to my right, so for optimal viewing I need vertical adjusting aswell)

I would gladly do the programming for the steppermotor if someone is having problems with it, have allready done this for mine but haven't incoporated the position switch yet, it's on my todolist.

So in short I think the R&D costs are minimal besides that, anyone who wants a motorized LCD would be willing to put in a little of their time. I don't think anyone needs to get payed for his work (aslong as the dude doing the R&D want's this motorized thingy himself). When it all works out he can spread the wealth.. We're all here to help each other or am I wrong?

BTW this doesn't mean that I would mind getting this R&D money, this would buy me a normal sized screen, one that doesn't crush my passengers...

so just let me know, I would be willing to help with or without funding (pref with funding )

Great point, I thought it was a good idea before I started to get my hands dirty but know it is a challenge to me so I am going to try and build it by next week. I tried what marsjell had drawn up out of cardboard to make sure I had the idea right and it worked. I understand why he is making it they way because my way would never work for a 12' screen (boy that is big). I think though that we about have it figured out as far as mechanically. I still might need a little help with the electronic part of the project. I am sure marsjell will help me out though. My point is I think we need to just scratch the idea and as soon as I get the final plans for mine I will post it and anyone can build it as they please. But if anyone has any better ideas then we will just branch off of it and make what we have better.

Are any of you fellas on IRC, AIM, ICQ, or the like? I want us to all get together and just chat.

I want to fully understand jsaggie's and marsjell's ideas.

What are the dimensions of the entire setup minus the lcd? I have a certain amount of space i can fit all this stuff into. Any dimensions/schematics in that regard would ROCK da HOUSE!

Thanks

And as you said marsjell, we are here to spread the wealth and help, but I think crazyshaxs just wanted to offer his help in the development, which for me would be monatary as well because i have no electrical engineering/mechanical engineering skills

Keep it up and KEEP US ALL POSTED and TAKE PICS OF THE SETUP in development as well as the finished prototype.

ah that explains a lot that's my "spam" account, if I have to fill out my email somewhere on the web I use this account, as I don't want anybody to know who I am when I'm not sure about the site. mp3car.com has proven it self worthy I'll update my profile right away. If you want me to reply, send me mail @ marcel@noduck.nl....
