TV-out problems

I have recently upgraded from a 4Gb hard drive to a 40Gb hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP SP2. I use the TV-out to a Portable DVD player for the display, not ideal but I have no spare cash for a touchscreen VGA.
The problems is that the screen will not resize to display the whole desktop. The orginal 4Gb hard drive install displayed a task bar prompt saying "Windows has detected a screen resolution issue and will automatically adjust settings". I have had no such prompt this time around.
I suspect it must be a Windows issue because the POST and startup screens display in full.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Did you install the latest graphics drivers? Is there a setting in the bios pertaining to resolution? And have you tried all possible working resolutions? good luck!

Unable to find a XP driver so I have to make do with XP installation.

When I change from 32bit colour to 16bit colour the screen is displayed in whole twice, one above the other and too squashed to read at all.

I'll check and report back

Thanks for your help.

Set it at 32bits. Thats for the color quality. You need to change the resolution (ie 800x600, 1024x900...) until it fits full screen.
Click on the control panel (switch to "classic view" if not already on it), click on display, click Settings tab at top, and then slide the Screen Resolution bar and click apply to see how it looks. Keep changing til its right.

edrex,
No luck with changing the settings. May have to put old hard drive in and check the settings and drivers on that. Cheers for your help.

Did the old harddrive have XP or another flava of OS?

If it had XP then try copying the c:\windows\inf folder onto the new drive.

Cheers Enforcer.
I'll give that a try tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I have to go to work in an hour , but it pays the bills and the Car PC parts .

And the old drive did have XP.

Right,
I checked the orginal 4Gb hard disk and found that not all the screen is displayed on the portable dvd at the smallest size (800x600). I installed 98SE and the full screen is displayed in full at 600x480.
I know XPs lowest resolution is 800x600 and 98SEs is 600x480. Does anyone know of a remedy to run XP until i can afford a VGA screen.
Cheers

Get hold of a copy of PowerStrip, it allows you to tweak video card settings.

pRoFiT will become famous soon enough
I think you can change the settings in the display properties/settings/advanced/adapter/List all modes <-- there should be a list of resolutions you can use. You should be able to change to 640x480 there. maybe even 720x480 would fit better. Hope that helps

Cheers pRoFIT, I was able to change the setting to 640x480. When I attempted 720x480 the colour flickered and defaulted to 640x480 at restart. Thanks again mate.

You can definetely display Windows XP in 640x480 if your video card will allow it!In Windows XP right click the desktop background and go to properties.Click the settings tab thats all the way to the right. Then click the advanced button and then click on the adapter tab.at the bottom there it should have a button that says list all modes. This is where you can change your display below 800x600 in Windows XP.Each setting will have the resolution along with the color settings and refresh rate.you can try any of these here till you find the right one.I would recommend trying 640x480,True Color(32 bit),60mhz
Best of luck man!
