Major Ghosting

I know Im a newb, but I HAVE used the search option and read what's gone on before. Here's the situation:

Bought a no-name LCD this week, (a 1-din mechanical 6") and have powered it off a molex connecter in a home PC (so no car environment). It requires 10W @ 12V, so no problem there. The LCD powers and the on-board displays (brightness controls, channel display) work fine - clean, crisp, yellow text.

However, I plugged the RCA connector (it has two, for two video channels) into my home DVD player and got major ghosting. Considering this isnt an image off a PC video card, I cant play with the resolution, and the RCA cable is only a foot long, so it shouldnt be picking up that much interference.

So the question is: is this normal? Until I pick up a VGA card with TV-out I cant check whether a different resolution would help, but has anyone else had this kind of experience at the very beginning?

Seriously though, you should not get ghosting from a DVD player, especially with that short of a cable.

Try

-A different cable
-Connecting the DVD player to another TV
-Another DVD or video source to the monitor. (IE camcorder)

Also note a VGA card with a TV out will not have as crisp and clear a picture as a standard DVD player. The TV card has to manipulate the VGA format picture to get a TV picture and in doing so loses quality and it will either overscan or underscan (IE the picture will be smaller than the screen or bigger than the screen)

The DVD player is a big-box domestic type and is currently set up in my home cinema just fine. I only got the screen yesterday via mail order, and Im dreading having to send it all back. However, I'll try it again with some other gear when I have more time.

So, anyone out there seen this issue with their initial setup? I dont have any other input source to check the signal as yet, so Id appreciate it if someone could let me know if theyve ever encountered the same...

I had ghosting on the vga, proved to be a bad connection to the outer screen(of the cable), but if you have good connections and its ghosting send the buggar back.

ghosting on a composite screen is due to a bad signal connection meaning to low of a signal or it could be to high of a signal try a longer cable say 20 + feet long if it gets worse you need a video amp if it is better put a 15k resistor inline with the + signal wire it's the middle pin in the rca cable if it is the same it is most likly em noise from the power supply try using a just a battery to power the screen if the picture improves get a different screen because in a car there is to much em noise to get rid of and you will alwase have this problem

why not solve the problem with a voltage regulator or something of that nature? I have a similar problem with my backup camera.

Even better, why would you have that much noise from a home PC power supply (which he says he's powering it from)

try the vga and let us know. that will answer a lot of questions. but +1 to all that was said before about cables and connections. also if you have lots of little cables linked together, interference will mess with your signal. check your wires and try to reduce as much as you can. drag your **** tothe floor in front of the tv to test it out if you have to

and are you sure your screen is getting the proper power? break out a DMM (digital multimeter) and go to town!

are you sure you're not confusing ghosting with a slow lcd response time? if the lcd has a crappy response time then it can appear as ghosting or trailing.... that's why a lot of high end lcd's are going to faster & faster... a 30ms refreash will look like crap with motion video...... the latest good lcd's are getting response times of 8ms & better.... just a thought....
