Factory NAV Screen From 2005 Acura TL

I have been searching like a madman for the best LCD screen. I want brightness and contrast like the super expensive screens used in some of the higher end OEM NAVs. Well, as luck would have it, I now have the screen from a 2005 TL. My question is, does anyone have any advice for me before I start hacking away at this thing? I just want to use it as a standard LCD monitor. I figure I'll have to strip it down to the bare LCD module and build my way back up. If anyone knows an easier way, I would love to hear it.

nice find!

lots of plugs, do you have any of the harnesses?

I'm betting if you can power it up, you can find a video input somewhere in all those harnesses.

I would do 2 things. first open it up and try to figure out what manufacturer/model it is and get some specs and info. Second find a pinout or factory wiring diagram to see if you can just give it power and signal.

I don't know that much about vga controllers and such, but maybe you can get one for that display and toss a touch screen kit on it... might be more of a project than its worth... I dont even know if its possible.

have fun, dont fry it

1) It's already touchscreen, but who knows how proprietory that is.

2) The goal is to hook up to it with a VGA or LVDS signal.

3) If it fries along the way, so be it.

It probably uses a RGBS signal...which I believe most OEM systems are...I know Lexus/Toyota and Nissan ones are.

RGBS huh? Any Ideas what it takes to hook into that type of signal?

Anyway, I am continuing the disassembly and I will post more pics along the way. It seems to have a pretty standard four wire touch panel:

Here's a peek under that metal housing. "Sumitomo Electric 5010-6980 HC712-1" appears on the board. A quick yahoo search on that part number yields no signifigant info.
