help lilliput usb not working!!!
newbie here, hope you can all help, ive got a lilliput 7" monitor with usb touch, got the monitor working on my laptop but when i install the driver for the touch screen, both the one on the disk and new one from lilliputs web site its not coming up, and the computer is not recognising the usb as a touch screen divice, it just says unknown device, anyone had this trouble? i brought the screen from my mate who had it working but hes had it back and its still not working? how fragile is the ribbon cable between the usb board and the touch pad on the screen? ive had it off and i may have damaged it if its a bit fragile?

Its probably not the ribbon cable. its either the touch panel or the touchscreen controller. One of both needs replaced. I'm in teh same boat as you.

on the lilliput touch screen controler, does it run independantly of the 5V from the usb? is it connected in any way to the VGA board and 12V power supply?

The TS overlay has nothing to do with windows detecting HW to install the drivers. My guess is that it is the USB controler, but just check the cables to be sure.

A USB cable has four wires, 5V, ground, data- and data+. I've looked at some pictures on the DigitalWW site and there are four wire going in.

The USB controler should be powered by the USB buss. I would have through that the USB controler would not be affected by reversed power on the DC input, but I could be wrong? You could check the diode on the USB controler, with a DMM, to see if it's gone.

Check out this tread.
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/input-devices/25075-how-i-fixed-my-lilliput-touchscreen-problems.html
Use an USB extension cable, cut off the end, strip the wires back and solder it to the USB controler board. At least this way you'll know it's not the wireing at fault. The cable can be had on Ebay for $4.00.

The link I posted before shows a five pin connector, however pin 1 is listed N/C "no connect". The pinout should still the same. Check the wiring with a DMM or resistance meter, and using the diagram posted earlier. Measure from the USB plug to the USB controler to determine which wire is 5V, ground, Data + and Data-. Then make sure the wires are connected correctly.
USB PLUG ----- USB CONTROLER
--------------------------------------
PIN 1 5V ----- PIN 2 (PIN 3 of 5 pin connector)
PIN 2 D- ----- PIN 4 (PIN 5 of 5 pin connector)
PIN 3 D+ ----- PIN 3 (PIN 4 of 5 pin connector)
PIN 4 GND ---- PIN 1 (PIN 2 of 5 pin connector)
I got my information from the following links:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=25075
http://www.usbman.com/Guides/BelkinM...e_assembly.htm
That should be what your looking for, now go have fun.
