If you use an nvidia graphics card, you can use their software to permanently set the brightness levels on Windows startup (assuming you're even using Windows). Otherwise, any other brightness/contrast/gamma setting program should work so you never have to deal with modifying the default values of the monitor.
I noticed that the Xenarc 700TSV seems to keep its values for a little while. Like I can manually turn it off and back on, it's all good. I can turn the computer off for a bit, still good when I come back five minutes later. Turn it off for a couple hours (even with pc in standby mode)... lost settings.

Maybe it has an internal battery that's dead? I haven't cracked mine open.
