All up in my headrests...

I just bought some headrest monitors off ebay...which come preinstalled into headrests with three color options (black, tan, or gray). The only thing is they're all leather, so you gotta have one of those three interiors in leather. The upside is that they are preinstalled, 8" display...and cheap as hell (I won them for $200). The headrests are universall and are adjustable, so they should fit into any car that has detachable headrests.

I believe they are the notorious ebay 'SUPER' brand from Hong Kong...seller named eonon...still waiting on shipment so I can't recommend them yet, but I had a question: How would I hook these up to my 7" touchscreen? Does it depend on my monitor, or will i need some sort of a 2 to 1 input adapter for the A/V cables that they come with? The only other thing that I can think of would be to get the video directly from the PC to the monitors via some kind of an adaptor...any input from someone that has done this would be greatly appreciated...

1) Does your computer have TV-Out? if so go to 3.
2) Get a VGA splitter, plug one VGA output to the touchscreen, one VGA output to a VGA-TV converter
3) plugin the TV-output from the converter/PC to a Video Y-splitter cable and run one AV to each of your headrests.

Beware that the quality of the image on these screens (unless they are VGA, which I doubt they are due to their price) will be basically useless for reading any text... good enough for videos/games though...

Thanks Roy...don't have the TV output on the PC, but the second route actually makes sense...I'll definitely post pics once I get them installed...I'm not worried about text for the backseats, It'll mostly be for movies and music vids...and obviously for other cars to watch me browse the internet while they're just stuck in traffic...

I wasn't sure if I should post this question in the PSU section or in the LCD section, but it is related to this thread, so I'll just ask (and hopefully not get attacked)...

...How should I power my headrest monitors if my 7" Touch Screen is already feeding off my PSU. Should I just run them to my cig lighter, or would there be a way to get them to run off my PSU? I know that they are supposed to run off a 12V power supply and that their power consumption is 10W (They are 8" non-vga, so I'm assuming that this is for each???)

Also, this might be a dumb question, but if my touchscreen comes with a cigarette lighter adaptor, would it not be sufficient to run it off that...or is it not constant power?

It will, of course, depend on your PSU power, and if you have wattage to spare.... if you have the 20w required to spare, on the 12v rail, then you can power them all from your PSU. Otherwise you can just run them to the 12v of the car, you should prolly use some sort of stabilizer like an Egg or something...

Thanks for the quick response Roy...I've just started on my setup and don't have my PSU picked out yet...I'll probably go with a higher wattage (after I do all my calculations of course)

no problem! you can prolly go with the dsatx 220w by zootjeff...

I think he sells them directly, or will have them on mp3car.com/store....

I think it even has delayed starting for lcd monitors (to prevent you from seeing boot messages before the PC is totally up)

Yeah, I'll probably do that...a few quick questions though (sorry i know this is a power supply issue and not so much a monitor, but its kinda related)...

...If I get a higher wattage power supply, then that is directly related to the amount of peripherals that could feed off of it, correct? for example, i should just add up all of the devices' wattage consumptons and that number should not exceed the amount of watts provided by the power supply? Also, can all of these devices (monitors, cd/dvd drive, etc..) tap directly into the power line for the motherboard? Should i get some sort of a regulator in addition to the psu?

Well, there is a bit more to it than just adding all the wattages... but usually it works out (or almost)...

Computer power is split into 3 voltages: 12v, 5v, 3.3v
Your motherboard will have requirements for xAmps 12v, yAmps 5v, zAmps 3.3v.... then your peripherals will also require different voltages (usb devices 5v, lcd monitor 12v, for example, 3.5" hd 5v+12v, 2.5"hd 5v, etc)

so basically you should check how many watts/amps your mobo/devices consumer PER VOLTAGE and match that with the capacities stated in the zootjeff's site about the capacity the 220w can give on each voltage.

As a general rule though, you add it all up and it usually works (I mean just add total wattage - ampsXvoltage - from all 3 voltages and add it all together)
