7" vs 8" ... worth the $$?

Hey all... been trolling for a LOOONG time and have a quick one.

My "carpc" goes back to the days of the 14x2 LCD screen, so it's pretty old... I wanted to upgrade to a true TFT VGA screen. I'm not doing anything fancy fab wise, it's just going to sit on an adjustable gooseneck mount so I can move it around as needed, and take it out when needed, etc etc.

My question is, 7" or 8"... I'd assume that 'bigger is better', but from all the reading I've been doing, now I'm not so sure. I'm not going to be doing any super hi-end stuff, and I want to try to conserve some cash, so I think the Xenarc's are out. Seems like I can get the lilliputs for around 250.

Anyone have an 8" installed that can compare? Someday GPS nav would be nice, is it readable?

Thanks for ANY info or comments!

I have an 8" lilliput and I prefer the somewhat larger screen. However, it is important to note that the 7" lilliput has a native resolution of 800x480 and the 8" has a native resolution of only 640x480, so you are actually getting some 25% more pixels on the smaller screen. I also find the 7" lilliput has a slightly brighter, slightly sharper picture.

The big reason for the popularity of the 7" screens is that they fit into most double-din openings. I have my screen mounted in a custom console, so I'm not limited by size.

my 8 inch is 800 by 600 and compared to a 7 inch xenarc which i also tested out its better for viewing and reading. however the quality on the xenarc is better lol. and btw are you sure you meant to say youve been TROLLING for a long time now?

Guess he meant lurking.

If you have room for the 8", go with that, IMO. Most of us are limied in space to 7".

Maybe I'm not hip to the lingo... I guess it was "lurking" I wanted to say... Heh.

Anyway, size doesn't really matter since it's not going in the dash, but it just looks like the thing to watch is the native resolution. Thanks for the tips!
