6" LCD 800x480 (rearview mirror)

Hello everyone,

This is my firs post here so, first of all, thanks to all regular and ocasional members for creating such an exciting hobby!

Now the question... Did anyone have any experience or heard anything about this: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...tem=5823335599 ?

Display size: 6 inches LG TFT-LCD panel
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Auto PAL / NTSC Format Switching
Resolution: 480 x RGB x 800 pixels
Dual Video Inputs
Power supply: DC12V
Power consumption: ≤5W
Brightness: 300(cd/㎡)
Contrast Ratio: 350:1
Adjustment : Brightness, contrast,
Resolution, color (0-100)
English language menu display
Operation temperature:-10º-40º
Visual angle: H:120º,V:90º

Dimension: 279 x 95 x 24mm (W x H x D)

Apparently it only accepts composite inputs but is there any chance it could work with VGA with custom controller?

Also it looks like the company that makes them also has 4.5" version.

Thanks!

Lilliput is not usable

I bought a Lilliput 7 inch touchscreen for $250 here after reading ALL of the reviews. What a disappointment. It wasn't so much the reviews were wrong, it was more to do with what the reviews omitted. Let me interject what the reviews lack.

Liliput has a speaker behind the screen. In real life the sound is unusable.
Liliput has so much glare it is unusable except at night time. It is no factory installed anti-glare screen. The shiny, shimmering glare is way too much.
The rgb/power plug is on the side of the screen which means flush mount of screen is almost impossible.
Do not ignore 800 x 480 spec. Unless your computer can pump out 800 x 480 the screen is unusable. None of the laptops/pcs I had could not do 800 x 480. If you run it at 800x600 you get massive flicker. Someone recommended I go out and buy a new graphics card that could. Haha what a joke. The point of my hack was recycle my computer parts bin.

By the way, the icons are too small to touchscreen. Which means you have to write your own touchscreen friendly GUI or stuck with Frodoplyer type.

Mp3car_Review, let ME interject.

I would like to comment on your comments.

1.) the speaker, true, it is unsuable, but i've never read anyone say otherwise, besides i've never noticed it even being there, granted i use a xenarc, so it maybe different.

2.) all of the "made for this niche" lcds (xenarc, lilliput, linitx, starvision, farenheit, etc) have the glare, that is due to the touchscreen overlay, and mostly due to the fact that these are usually more cheaply produced and manufacturered than an oem lcd -- though i can't confirm that statement.

3.) um, most people buy these lcds JUST TO FLUSH MOUNT THEM. so yeah, i flush mounted mine and the plugs are on the side, and have had no problems with it.

4.) the 800x480 thing, the only known "offenders" of not allowing the use of this resolution are the via epia boards, as well as some older video cards, however there are SEVERAL posts on the boards about ways to get the resolution, specifically for NON via epia boards; so if you use an nvidia video card, you're in luck, same with ATI users.

5.) massive flicker? i run my lcd at 800x600 and get no flicker at all. the flicker you are refering to is probably due to the fact that you are powering the lcd straight from the car battery, i.e. going straight from a fuse in your fuse block. you could get rid of that flicker very easily by powering it from your dc-dc powersupply (it supplies regulated power to it, so its much cleaner, and no more interference/flicker).

6.) the icons are too small? make them larger, that is the beauty of a carpc, you customize it the way you want. and for pete's sake, you are running a 7" lcd screen, not a 19", so think before you speak. oh and about 90% of the mp3car.com forum population is using a "touchscreen friendly gui" made by some brilliant enthusiasts on this forum.

with all of that said, you obviously haven't looked around the forum that much or have not truly read all of the reviews.

and wtf, i know this is your first post, and you just joined, etc, but "mp3car_review" did some government agency send you here to stir up trouble?

That's a lie. This monitor doesn't have VGA connection. There's no way it can support 800x480 natively.

mp3car_review and defsquad, guys, with all due respect the thread has nothing to do with Lilliput 7".

Ol33l, I'm not planning to replace my main rearview with it. I was going to use it as a secondary display (possibly even having replaced the semitransparent mirror with glass) mounted on top of the dashboard-- much more convenient and safer for navigaion.

Here's the manufacturer site: http://www.szdsus.com/3-3.html . Why do you think this LCD cannot be native 800x480?

That's a pretty good price. Only the camera runs for about 100$...

I have been trying to find a source for the toshiba panel LTM06C381 for a while. The specs on this display match. If that thing uses this panel, I may have to buy a few...

Long time listener, first time poster, ok? I probably spent more $ and time on carpc effort than most "since 2002 posters" The reason why I posted anything at all especially on 6inch rear view mirror was for the same reason you replied to my post. something ticked me off. I own both 7 inch lilliput and 6 inch rear view mirror, and they are both rather unusable, 6 inch rear view mirror especially.

What you say is not wrong. My point is dont go gaga googoo over carpc displays when they overlook the fundamentals such as usable user interface.
