Touch Screen Upgrade

DONATIONS HERE

Last Update : 01/20/2006

URGENT : NEED MP3CAR COMMERCIALs HELP

LIST OF POSSIBLE RESELLER:

TOUCH SCREENs

BULLIER INTERNATIONAL : OUT (Products are too expensive for quality equal to Lilliput's ones)
- 11/15/2005 : 6.9" Touch screen purpose (don't ask why not 7" I don't know) :

minimum quantity :100
73,45€ (without tax) with anti-print option
61,76€ (without tax) without anti-print option

Comparing with original caraterisitics, waiting for sample for test :

- 11/28/2005 : Sample bill received
ABOUT 110€ = USD 128. Donations needed
SAMPLE BILL

- 12/05/2005 : Sample paid : 111,77€.

- 12/09/2005 : Sample received :
Preparing test comparison.

- 01/05/2006 : Tests Start :

1) As expected, X pinout is inverted. Lilliput TS PCB driver interpret left as right and right as left. Two wires need to be inverted (PINS# 2 and 4) to solve the problem.
The 4-wired connector is the same as old on-dash Lilliput screens. That means that doesn't fit with new Lilliput indash screen which touchscreen hasn't any connector. It is just a thin FFC. Adaptor needs to be developed.

These problems could be fixed in factory before production (to be verified...).

Adaptor made for test (adaptor which invert the two X wires) :
-->Touch screen compatible with original TS PCB driver.

- 01/20/2006 : Tests conclusions:

A picture review has been made, comparing the two Touch Screens.

Qualiy of Bullier TS is equal to Lilliput's original ones. 73,45€ (i.e. 88,00€ WITH TAX)are not justified for such touch screen because there is no added value than $50 originals ones.

Bullier international is now out..

AXESS Technology :
Very gentle people.
They are looking for the same products as us. They try to find asian manufaturers.
- 01/03/2006 : Have recontacted them. Most of the Asian manufacturers are in leaves. We wait for the resumption of their activity

3M (French division) :
Waiting for reply. Hopping they will propose something.
- 11/28/2005 : Have recontacted them. Waiting for purpose

ELO TOUCH (French division) :
Not able to custom 4wires resistive TS in 7" 16/9.

Hi,

Please could some one give the nickname of a commercial MP3car admin or simply admin. because I have looked for anti glare plastic or less reflective touch screen and have perhaps found a manufacturer.

He ask me a lot of question and I need moderator to clarify all.

2 Solutions:

1) Thin Anti glare film which could be placed in front of the TS

2) TS replacement (need to communicate all informations about dimensions needed)

Are MP3CAR mods interested in or not...?

I have found a few antiglare films too. I have also found a company in cornwall who can coat TS overlays but I need to get one over to them to try. nice triple post!

Here is the manufacturer:
http://www.bullier-international.fr/...ti-reflets.htm

Here is an extract of my mail :

Quote:
These dimensions of the touch screen concern a first product: a screen TFT 7 " of brand Lilliput.

Both possible solutions:

- An anti-glare film in applied to the touch screen already existing :low-cost solution.
- The replacement of the existing touch screen by another equivalente of a point of view dimensionnel, but better from a point of view report reflection/transmission rate of light.

This second solution remains the solution the most waited by the potential users

Solution Premiere: a new touch screen

These data are not verified yet quite (notably the position of the 4 wires flexible cable ).

The paving stone has to answer the following constraints:

- A touch screen RESISTIVE 4 STALKS - Respect for the dimensions given in the document below.
- A touch screen thinest as possible (if possible < 1.5mm but not superior)
- Price lower than 50 USD - US Dollars - (Approximately 42€).

The second solution: an anti-glare.

- A reflection / transmission rate smallest as possible.
- Dimensions 106mmx165mm
- The film should not cancel the feature of the present touch screen which is behind.
- Resistant in scores (because possibility of use of a stilet by the users)
- If possible, a cover resisting to the fat tracks (notably in finger marks).
- Solution the cost of which (to determine) will have to remain derisory with regard to the cost of the first solution.

I don't know if you remember, but there was a guy here, Diggy, that offered to put antireflection film on a couple screens for free as testers. I had antireflection film put on all three surfaces of my Super screen. The lcd, front/back of the touch panel. I don't have before and after pictures, but before I had it put on, I could barely see the screen during the day when the sun was out. Now (when my screen was still working), I have no problem seeing the screen except when there is direct sunlight hitting the screen. Here are a couple pictures taken during the day. This is the guys company,

Uhmm, it seems interesting. I need antireflection film for Lilliput. What exactly model of film do you have?
Thanks.

Antireflection / Antiglare / Protective Film

Thank you Parvo99 for posting your evaluation and photos of the film, I like that in the second photo the ambient light seems bright, washing out the dashboard. I'm glad this enhancement worked out for your application.

For those interested;
This enhancement consisted of adding a clear HEA2000 anti-reflection film to the front of the LCD (reducing total reflection at this layer from about 4% to <1%), adding a clear HEA2000 antireflection film to the back side of the touch panel (again from 4% to <1%), and adding a matte HEA2000 anti-reflection with a soft adhesive to the front side of the touch panel (again from 4% to <1% except with lower specular reflection and higher diffuse reflection due to the matte finish). Reflection of the 2 inner surface of the resistive touch panel remained at 4%.

Total improvement - there was about a 50% drop in total reflection for this display. A better touch panel or alternative could result in between 85% and 95% drop in reflection

To clarify;
1. These are HEA (High Efficiency Antireflection) thin films on PET film substrates, these are not just anti-glare or frosty coatings

2. The material used on the front of the touch panel has a soft adhesive and can be removed and replaced if needed. The other films should be considered permanent. The soft adhesive film potentially could be user installed (though the results would typically be better if I installed them in my filtered air room/class 100 flow bench).

3. If you really want a good looking display use a digitizer instead of a touch panel (you'll need a stylus), or use a NFI or acoustic wave touch panel (or anything without internal relfectance).

Unfortunately the advance sample of HEA2000-matte with soft adhesive has not become a commercial item and the supply of this film is very small and it is not being and may never be produced commercially. However I just ordered a sample run of the HEA2000-clear with soft adhesive which actually should work better for you purpose.

The price for enahncement of a 7" diagon wide screen will be between $100 and $200 depending on what you want to have done (for $200 we could also jack up the backlight brightness); we require a test set for your display that we can drive with either a VGA standard signal or NTSC. And sorry our policy is that our liability is only up to the amount that you pay us, we are not responsible for failure of your display. (We will handle your display with extreme care, but we can not accept liability for a failed display as we expect to recieve everything from new displays which may fail due to infant mortality to used displays which have been mis-handled, poorly packed, and already run for thousands of hours.)

Some screen defect and scratches will go away completely due to our enhancement, other will become more visible. Deep scratches will not go away and may look worse after enhanement.

When the clear soft adhesive HEA2000 material arrives from Asia I'll sell pre-cut 7" sheets for about $15 ea in packs of 3. (or buy a full 500mm x 1000mm sheet for $179.00 plus shipping and cut it yourself )

In addition I suggest you consider a Vikuiti DBEF film for backlight brightness enhancement. This film will give you a 35% to 60% increase in brightness by using an optical trick with polarization and reflection (no added power/passive enhancement).

I am still deciding how to sell these enhancements for your purpose, my company sells to other companies (primarily Marine Computer, In-Flight Entertainment, and recently Cockpit Application) and selling to end users is a new thing we are evaluating.

If you are interested in an enhancement of you LCD please send an e-mail to MP3Car@FPDSolutions.com. I apolagize in advance if I am slow getting back to you, we are a busy small business with a core of customers we focus on; preference given for multiple displays of the same model or to companies interested in selling/marketing enhanced display from stock.

Best Regards,
~dig
