Adding a VGA screen, possible ?
Hey guyz,
Ok first i'm tried searching, but waow it's been a few hours and i came up with nothing. It's either that it has not been posted yet or i'm using all the wrong terms to search. So plz don't ask me to search.
And now for the question.
Ok i'm about to buy a In-Dash DVD/MP3/VCD 7" LCD thing. It's a single Din insatall. Has 2 RCA inputs, non Touch.
Is there a possibility or a kit or something available that i can turn this thing into a VGA screen ? I would like to use this with my carputer that im' getting ready for my car ? I've seen that there are kits available to turn it to a touch screen but what about VGA ?
So is it possible or i'm just dreaming bout it. ?
Waiting to hear from you guys.
Pease.
Aj.

Okay I guess i will for this one time try to answer this short and sweet. NO. There most likley is no kit for that, call the manufacturer and they will probably say the same.
You can use the aux video in for a carputer but like the faq said it will look like crap. Your unit only has composite input and if you want to connect you carputer to it you will need a video card with composite out or svideo if your carputer and screen support it.
Hours of searching should have told you the same. Hopefully this will help the next nOOb trying to ask the same question.

i know all that stuff, i've been long enough with computers and know lots bout it, but this carputer thing is all new, and i've no local help what soever, so u'll have to bear with me and my qss.

ya i searched alot, but nothing came up about the vga upgrade, plenty bout the resolution which i know bout.
N hey would it be possible to buy a non in-dash vga lcd and rip it somehow to throw it in the in-dash that i have ? wud that work ? just a wild thought.
P.S. im buying everything off the net, nothing locally available.
Thanx for the help guys,
Aj.

I think the xenarc or lilput have din size screens that are under 500.

Not an easy answer. Probably no. Someone else might know more about that. Two things here
1. dvd/mp3/vcd player with screen in dash. Probably $1000, not sure about the one your about to buy. aux in means crappy video for a carputer later.
2. VGA Screen. Anywhere from $170 to $500+ depending on what features you want. I just bought an 8 inch generic touchscreen for 170 shipped. But then you would need the carputer to handle the DVD/MP3/CD/VCD/AVI/MPG/DIVX/GPS/WiFi/TV/XM SAT/and general applications. Which also range in price depending on what you already have in computer parts.
edit: http://www.logicsupply.com/product_i...roducts_id/363 xenarc touchscreen
edit 2: http://www.mp3car.com/store/index.ph...46d0892c2bafe8 mp3car sells everything you need
And so you dont ask somewhere else. Buy an opus for your DC-DC PSU. I dont have one but they come highly recomended here. And touch screen, what can I say about touch screens. Its really a must have feature. keyboard and mouse are really hard to use while driving. I love mine and its not even installed yet

Thanks for the help. I tought that i could just pull out a vga screen and throw it into the in-dash that i'm buying.
Actually as i do not have these kind of stuff available locally, i normally buy 'em directly from the manufacturers not even retailers over the net. I'm getting a single din in-dash 7" LCD plays dvd/mp3/vcd/ all in 1. Costing me round 400us shipped to me.
and as for my carputer, i'm getting a laptop, that will b doing all my mp3 and divx playback thing. As i don't get things locally here, i don't want to go into a opus or something that i'll have minimum support to if things go bad.
Regards,
Aj.

Don't think there is a way to do this. You're HU outputs video signal. The screen that come with your HU is a video screen. If you switch it out with a VGA screen, you'll have to find one that:
1. Fits the enclosure on your HU. Very unlikely.
2. Has RCA inputs. Likely, but you'll have to hack your HU to work with them. Might be hard. Could destroy the HU.
3. Touchscreen. Might work for your HU but might not work for your car PC. There's a thread on here somewhere that somebody got a Kenwood touchscreen to control their PC but it was a *****.
Bottom line - not likely, absolutely not easy.

Well i never said it wud be easy, but with help from you guys i'm sure i can do something. out of the three points that u mentioned Bugbyte, i'm not interested in Touchscreen(yet), the only main concern iz that if i can put in a VGA screen and get it to work, but i don't think it's going to be anywhere easy as u said. But i have an uncle who is a electronics tech, i'm going to check with him, and if i get something out from him, i'll post it here.
Now after reading the psx lcd hack, i'm just thinking to go that way.
I'll update this thread if something happens.
Peace.
Aj.

Do You Think This Will Work ?
Hey guys, i have a 7" wide lcd. It has like RCA In and has a TV Tuner built into it. Works great, but again it's not a VGA monitor.
butttttttt. I was just searching online with the part numbers that i got off the controler board and screen. And came to know that the screen has RGB thing, something like the PSX screen. I mean i'm no techy but i just thought that if you can connect a PSX screen via the RGB pin outs maybe i can do something similar with this screen.
These are the links to the specs.

Model PW070DS1
Dot Format (HxV • dots)
1440 x 234
Input Signal System
Dual

R.G.B.
And if i have this card, do you think i can try the psx hack on this lcd using this card ? I'm going 2 confirm which card is installed in the lcd housing when i get home. What do you guys think ?

You've answered your own question.....see the 1440 X 234 ?
Even if you were able to cobble together an rgb input it will still look like complete ****.
Do yourself a huge favor and just buy a xenarc or a lilli, you'll thank yourself later.

The thing is that i'm trying 2 put something 2gether piece by piece, i'm leaving things to buy for last. Cause i just want to try to do things and make use of the stuff i already have. If i just can't do it, i'll go ahead and buy the stuff.
But it's just alot of fun doing things yourself. Even the laptop i'll get will have a new case, wont stay in the stock casing. Hope you guys understand.
So is there a way i can try the VGA thing on this lcd ? 2 save something 4 now, but more to do it by hand.
Thanks,
Peace,
Aj.
