Alpine Touchscreen + Car PC? IS IT POSSIBLE?
Alrighty, I have an Alpine IVA-D300 in my car presently... What I wanted to do was use the IVA-D300's touchscreen capabilities to control a car pc.... would that be possible?

Sure, it's possible.
Here's what you need to do:
Take apart your expensive Alpine unit and dismantle the touch controller.
Determine how the touch controller works, and how to adapt it to some input ont he PC, most likely serial or USB.
Engineer and create an adapter from whatever port to the touchscreen
Write drivers for the touchscreen on the PC.
Good luck with all that....
Now, had you actually done some reading, you'd find out what needs to be done, because this has been discussed on these forums many, many times before. You'd also know that someone has already done this for another make of touchscreens.... Kenwood, if I recall.

possible, yes.... practical or do-able buy the average enthusiast..... no way...
& I do have the d300 in my install & I did rip it apart & modify it, but in looking at it & trying to consider what your talking about...... not to practical...
it's not even that I couldn't get the 300 to display the computer, & it's not that I couldn't have gotten the touch to work with it, in the end after these extreme modifications all you will be left with is a blurry non vga not so hot computer display.... not worth the effort to me.... I just added more screens

If anyone is still intrested I'm going to be tring to make an alpine IVA-D300 to serial adaptor for the PC. I plan on making this product and then using a serial to usb adaptor to plug my device from the brain of the alpine unit into the usb port on my mini-itx motherboard.

Well I'd be interested, although I'm wondering if your product would be specific to the Alpine model mentioned or if it would work with other Alpine bus models?
