3M DBEF & BEF Enhancement Film installed into Xenarc Screen
Well, i have finally finished my 3M DBEF and BEF enhancement.
If your not familiar with what i have done previously here's the thread
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-display/63802-took-plunge.html
Initial thoughts:
Was well worth it, as the display seems alot brighter then before and colours also look a lot more vivid. Daytime visibility has also increased, to which i am very happy with the time spent cutting up the sheets etc.
Cost:
FREE! (As i requested samples from a 3M supplier.)
Here's some pictures from the disassembly, hope this is helpful to someone.

Are those films about the same as these: http://cms.3m.com/cms/US/en/2-136/FFicRFL/view.jhtml?
Or are they something entirely different?

Removed all the filters and replaced it with just the BEF and DBEF.

Was it easy to determine the correct orientation of the films?
I have some sample films coming. Don't want to cut the film and then find out I have the wrong orientation...
Being samples, they probably don't have the notch indicator.

What are DBEF and BEF? And do you just bung em in or do they have to be oriented specifically or what?

I remember I saw the result before.
I send a quota to 3M and it is bloody expensive. Better of going with transflective upgrade instead.

Intra,
I've been reading your post with great interest. I haven't cracked my LCD open yet, but as I understand the steps, you removed the original filter(s), and inserted the BEF film on the bottom then the DBEF on top of that, then layed the rear of the LCD screen on top of that. Can you elaborate on what filters you removed and what they look like? Also, what alignment issues did you come across and how did you resolve them? Price aside, do you still think this is a worthwhile upgrade? Does the LCD work better in sunlight? Is glare reduced?
Thanks,
RRG

awww been a while since i've been back to this thread
Anyways yes.. here's some pics... if you look at the date.. its prolly about six months ago
http://intra.id.au/gallery/v/intra/c...x_mods/xenarc/
As for the screen, well yeah works pretty well for me.
Considering i got the film for _FREE_ i can't complain on its performance, i just rang up the 3M dealer in my area (Australia) and asked for some samples. They were really great with the whole idea and gave me enough to do my screen and one for my mate.
Think i have a few sheets left somewhere...
Screen still works, no issues to date.. but i do notice we now have the transreflective upgrade.. which would be better IMHO.. it all comes down to cost now..

Hey cool i just saw this thread
I have convinced 3m to send me free samples of their vikuiti line. not just the films but also the Vikuiti™ Enhanced Specular Reflector Film (ESR) which is like a mirror finish for the backing. i first want to get some before pics and i havent even installed the pc yet so this might be a while till im done but ill try to get some pics of before and after with direct sunlight.
(to get the free samples i told them i was trying a prototype..which i am... and that i have like a clean room so they were like oh ok) which i defently dont have a clean room. lol
sorry for any mis spellings or grammer.. im at work, and not really allowed to be on line like this.

Dude any pics of the unit while it is light out, or in the open. The screen looks great when it is dark, but most do.
I only ask because I had some films installed on a screen, and I am still testing the results, but so far, I am not all that impressed with direct sunlight results. Ya, when it is dark or normal conditions, it is brighter and more readable, but like I said, no major improvement in direct sunlight, well, nothing significant yet.
Michael
