72 solder joints and it actually works
it only took me a few weeks, 3 irons, and 2 packages of heat-shrink tubing, but now i can mount the display 3 feet from the controller (and that's not my hand, it's my little brother's)

Cat5 cable. Available at any decent computer or electronics store.

actually those are shielded Cat5, idk if it helped any, but in addition to being braided, it's got some metal shielding around the whole thing. And the reason the cable looks ****ty is because the spool of it was sitting outside for a while.

What is the model number of that panel?
Where did you get the controller for it?

Nice.. the LCD panel itself is probably LVDS.
IIRC, you can go up to about 3 feet with regular unshielded twisted wire..
With shielded wire, you should be able to go farther, 6-9 feet or more.
Of course, that's assuming the LCD panel is LVDS.. I can't tell from the picture.

huh? I have 6 LVDS panels up and running right now with UTP cable, and one of them is 16ft long. (cable that is, not the lcd panel)

I forget what the cable length limits are for LVDS, but they can be pretty far.. 16 feet is pretty cool.

From the information I have gathered over the years, LVDS can transmit 15 meters without an amp. and can run 60+ meters with an inline amp attached to boost signal strength. In my testing, I have found UTP to actually work better, so long as the cable is 100 ohm resistance. less or more resistance provides for an unstable signal. using Cat5 can be a real pain in the arse if your application requires tight bends, etc. The vast majority of Cat5 is solid copper wire, not stranded, which obviously is not very flexable.

NEC NL8060BC31-28D. 350nits bright (stock, I boost some to 760nits) 600:1 cr (high for a 12.1" panel), wide viewing angle, and the panels are hard coated, anti-glare.
