what size should i get?
i cant decide between a liliput 7", 8.4", or 10.4". id love the 10.4, its just to get it to fit in my bezel....its gonna be alot harder than the 7" or 8.4". do u think 8.4" is enough? btw i have a 1997 ford explorer...
thanks for any help, and i will be posting here more about what parts to get for the pc and how to install it all later on...thanks

Get as big as you can reasonably make fit. Haven't there been a few Explorer projects running 10.4" (or even a 15" in dash... custom)??
Also, not sure what end use you have in mind, or if you can get 10" touchscreen, but I wouldn't carPC with out the touchscreen.
Good luck and tell us what you end up with (pics)!

im looking at this monitor.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lilli...21556303QQrdZ1
is that good? and yea, i wouldnt dare not get touchscreen lol...i have a pioneer p6600dvd right now, its 6.5" touchscreen, i would keep it, but a VGA is better for a PC right? and 6.5 is too small for a PC imo...
and yea theres a guy on fordexplorer.net with a 17" in the dash...but heres pics of his old 10.4...that was a crappy made bezel tho, if i pay him to make the bezel for my 10.4" if i get it, he said it would be way better than that, hes gotten WAY better at glassing since then...his entire interior is glass lol...

Check the ratings of the individual seller.
You can also look up commercial sellers at resellerratings.com. Mp3playerstore.com has a horrible rating on resellerratings.com, but other people have bought form them with positive results.

Here's some pros and cons that I've thought about:
7"
- pros: fits small places, most common screen in carPC application, decent brightness
- cons: 800x480 resolution is a hassle, small screen
8.4"
- pros: larger display
- cons: usually only 640x480 resolution, may not fit in small places, may not be bright enough
10.4"
- pros: best size for visibility, standard PC resolution (usually 800x600)
- cons: may only be 640x480, hard to put in-dash or tight spaces, usually doesn't have enough brightness

Hey that screen on ebay looks nice. Decent brightness, 800x600, includes touch screen. Hmmm...

Pictures do not show a connector for the touchscreen! Dimensions so not make sense on folder vs. unfolded.
Try to get a link to a spec page (good luck).

Go ahead and spend the money on the carPC. Just think of the benefits:
1) If you spend it, your wife/girlfriend can't waste it on stupid crap (like rent and clothes)
2) Your car will become too cool to be "pimped", so you don't have to worry about Xibit showing up at your house!
3) You'll be able to be a TOTAL geek in front of thousands of people everyday on your commute to and from work!
