Installation question

I just bought a double-din installation kit for my 2000 Celica GT. I am going to install a carputer and hook up the audio into the AUX-IN of my head unit. Excuse my ignorance, but the double-din has one regular slot and a much smaller slot with a pocket. Will the in-dash TFTs go into the smaller slot? Am I missing something? It appears that I have to have the pocket in because the mounting brackets hook into it. I've tried a bit of searching, but I'm new to this forum and my search couldn't find it.

Double-DIN means two DIN spaces.
Don't use the installation kit. The two single-DIN units will fit in the space on top of each other.

There are very narrow indash monitors that go in a 1/2 din space, but they are few and far between. Most ALL of them are a full din size. If you have a double din space you can put in two din units of whatever you want. Still confused?

Toyota's typically have a DIN-sized HU and a DIN-sized pocket below, resulting in a double-din opening. Both of these units bolt to silver brackets (one on each side) which bolt to the dash. If you intend to keep an existing HU and aux-in to it, you'll want something that can replace that din-sized pocket below. Many options are available, just look around. Hope this helps.

Thanks....it does. I am replacing the original CD player with my own, and I bought what was supposed to be a double-din kit from Fry's. The hole/pocket below the regular sized hole on this kit is too small for a regular HU to fit into it. It's not near half, just too small. I guess I'll just have to look for another kit. Any suggestions on where to shop for such a kit?

See, that's what you're missing.... You don't need a kit at all. The two single-DIN units will fill up the enter double-DIN space. The whole point of the kit you did putchase was to cover up the gaping hole that is left when you put a single-DIN headunit into a double-DIN space.

The only thing you may want is some sort of trim ring to make the space around the two units look a little nicer.

Ahh ok. But will they be secure? I guess I'll just have to get a screen and find out. I can use the kits trim and just cut out the divider. Thanks a lot guys.
