Is it the same as the digitalww one?
I am a couple days away from purchasing my monitor and I dont know if i want to be the guinea pig but that price looks very enticing. Its either that or the non-motorized from digitalww
I've purchased one of these (not from that seller, but the pictures in the listing are all the same). I haven't had a digitalww one in my hand but again the pictures are all the same. I've replaced a Xenarc manual single din screen (DWW-7VGA) with it. It is nicely built from a mechanical perspective - while the DWW one was the forerunner and certainly the trendsetter, the manufacturers of this screen have made all the right improvements to the mechanism.
Some of the things I like about it:
- It doesn't keep showing you the resolution in the top corner like a Xenarc does when it switches on or changes from dos mode to graphics mode.
- The sliding mechanism woks well, and it tilts toward th e driver which is very useful given the limited viewing angles of these screens.
- It is quite (although not perfectly) stable - so it doesn't vibrate much when you're moving (my car has stiff suspension).
- It doesn't come on automatically (some will hate it for the same reason but I often power my PC up without the engine running to do administration, and I like the fact that the screen doesn't waste power. It really isn't a big deal for me that I have to switch it on to use it since it is normally stowed anyway so my hand is already in the vicinity of the switch)
Some things that could be better
- it takes a good five seconds after pressing the on button before the screen is on. The first time you switch it on you think it is broken.
- the backlight power cannot be adjusted like a Xenarc. Daylight use isn't quite as pucker as it isn't quite as bright, and night use is not as good either because dimming the backlight is the best way to reduce the glare (better than Gamma I find).
- in dark light conditions the screen appears slightly 'grainy'. This might be the touch screen - not sure. Not a big issue though and is only visible if you look hard enough.
- The touch screen is not quite as accurate as the Xenarc - but I haven't done anything other than a basic calibration so maybe that can be improved by me.
- I've seen a couple of other people mention this - the touch screen doesn't work when you come out of hibernation unless you first run and then shut down the configuration program. No amount of messing with Devcon worked either. If you reboot it always works fine. Didn't seem to matter which version of drivers I used. I have implemented a software solution for this - will post separately.
- They've cheapened the closed look by plastering "touchscreen LCD display with VGA" or something similar across the front of it. It's a clear plastic badge so can't be 'scraped' off. Needs something tasteful put over the top of it. Similarly the 'eject' button is fake chrome.
I've posted more cons than pros but I'm very pleased with it as it is a significant leap over the DWW-7VGA.
