One DIN high LCD display

I'm looking for a one DIN high LCD touchscreen. Not a slideout popup type of 7" display but an indash one DIN height screen. I don't need to watch movies, just control my car pc. Is there such a product availble? I only have one DIN slot availble and do not want a popout screen.

That'll be a mostly useless screen I think..
The resolution you'd be able to get at best would be something like 800x200 and windows is pretty iffy even at 800x480.

For a direct answer, I've not seen anything and I've been looking hard at DIN screens the last few days.

Well its not like I need to surf the web or write emails. I just want music playback / control. Head units have been doing it for years with one din

If you just want music, why not just get a HU that can do MP3's? Some can even read USB drives.

I don't get it. Such a small screen is useless for a PC, which is a reason why no one seems to make it.

You could get a serial lcd display and use that if you're not much interested in graphics.

Yes an aftermarket HU is a possibility or maybe an iPOD.
What I want is high end sound quality, hard drive based music library and last FM radio. I have a double DIN space but the radio need seems to have killed the carpc/7" LCD idea. I want to be able to playback lossless formats suchas FLAC or monkeys so that eliminates an iPod. Going with an aftermarket HD with built in hard drive is very costly. I'm going to have to look for the usb susgestion.

The serial LCD display is an iteresting idea, but I think its control options would not work. I need to be able to select play lists, track next, stop play, etc...

I think ideally I need a built in the dash IPOD with wifi so I can upload files wireless to my home network.

So thats why I am looking for a carpc. If carpc FM radio worked well I wouldn't even both looking for this workaround.

no sense even buildign a car pc. just get a mp3 playing HU or the one with USB. if your not going to use functions like gps, movies, engine computer management, or internet surfing then its no use putting a mother board HD and all the crap for a computer in your car. just spend a few hundred on a sweet HU

a serial lcd, display, an ipac keyboard emulator and centrafuse will get you what you want.

you'll have to make up custom buttons or do what i did and hack apart a 1/2din pioneer detachable faceplate and wire it to the keyboard emulator. then map the keystrokes to centrafuse (to navigate through playlists) and you should be good to go.

side note: I recommended centrafuse becuase it supports serial lcd displays

another thing you could do is get a 7" touchscreen hack apart the display out of a radio faceplate. then mount the radio out of the way, and sneak the display (from the headunit) into an ashtray or in your visor. then use a remote to tune change station on the headunit.

There's no single-din VGA monitor, much less one with touchscreen.

Even if there was, what native resolution would it support? 800x240? No graphic chip would ever support that resolution so you would have to run 800x600 on a 800x240 screen. Think about it. You're asking for the impossible.
