Xenarc 700IDT - Red Wash Over Image
Had this screen for about 8 months with various problems (hinge screws popping out, screen edge wear).
Latest is screen is starting to display yellow, green or red wash over display depending on display movement. Slightly rotating the screen (via flip mechanism) changes wash from one colour to another. Checking/adjusting connections to PC/monitor doesn't help. My guess is the display ribbon cable is to blame?

I was going to start a new thread, but I'll just rant in yours. Had to send mine back to Xenarc 2 times. Got it hooked up and worked for about an hour. Now when I power up, it has a blank display and powers down after about 5 sec. Grrrrrrrrr, looks like i wasted 500 bucks. Now I got to look for a new display. And I'm avoiding Xenarc like the plague!!!!!

My ribbon cable went out on me. I sent it back to get repaired. The screen pinches the cable when out. If you are careful enough with a dremel, you can grind away the lip that causes this.

Will be returning this to supplier for repair. Are Xenarc/repair agents effective in repairing these known problems or should I point out what/how I expect the repair to be done (such as the dremel solution, thanks LinuxRacr)? Had any luck with the hing screw/screen edge wear being repaired under warranty?

Man.. i've had mine for a little over a week...
i was using it.. all was fine
this weekend i decided to finally put my back seat back in... (getting ready for a small road trip)... so i figured i would upload some of my new music on while i was waiting (wireless B = slow...)
out of no where the screen shut off...
wouldnt come back on..
finally did... now it has a red washout... and touchscreen doesnt work...
should i contact xenarc directly? or the company i ordered from?
and this dremel mod.... is this to be done after repairs are done... or is it doing this only because the ribbon is being pinched... as in if i dremel it, it will be fine?
Thanks in advance!

Check where the cable attatches to the unit. The plug style they are using sux really bad. Turns out mine wasn't getting the signal to come out of stand by, hince the reason it was shuting off in 5 sec. I actually used zip ties to temporary help hold the connector in place using the two bars that stick out on the back of the unit till I figure something out better. After I figured out y the unit wasnt turning on, I went to place it back in the car while the unit was on, and was getting a red washout. As I pulled the unit back out it would go away. As I moved the connector around I'd get a washout every now and then. So I knew what was going on. So with a little support with the zip ties I can at least use the unit, but if I hit a bump or jar the display the right way, the display will shut off, but the green light stays on, and the touch screen works. All I have to do is turn it off and back on and it works again. Gets aggervating sometimes, but at least it kinda works, just dissapointed for what payed for it

Hey dude... THANK YOU!
i had tried everything... checked every connection, took the carputer out, brought it in the house.. hooked it up to my monitor.. (to make sure it wasnt a bad video card), hooked my laptop up to the touchscreen.. and realised that was the problem... i dont know why i never thought to check that connector back there... but sure enough that was it..
Took your advice and ziptied it to each of those bars on the back and it seems to fit snugly now...
Thanks again! you were my advil for this headache...

No prob man, I see a lot of people having washout problems with these things. I'm betting that connection is 90% of there issue. I plan on doing a DVD-R install on that 700IDT some time soon. I may just do a hard wire into the board to eleminate all issues. If I do I'll make a schematic and post it on this site for anyone who may need to do this mod to remove the washout or blackouts. May even look at changing connectors, I'll just have to dig up my digikey book and see.

Yeah, all of my washout problems were connector-related. The one on the back, I have to use a key or screw driver to get the little spring-loaded latches to latch to the back of the houseing of the unit correctly. Also, check the VGA connector. If you move it too much, you will get washout as well. You just have to wiggle it back into place.

My 700IDT started loosing color again. After some testing, I took it apart, and low and behold the ribbon cable was broken again. This is the third time....

So i ordered 2 cables...
they came in today
i dremeled some of the case to prevent future pinching, and all went together nicely
picture shows once again!
however.... the touchscreen isnt working.
any suggestions?
i have the usb cable ran under the carpet, and i have an extension from there to the pc in the trunk, but all the connections under the carpet are electrical taped together, so i dont think thats the problem.
could it be something with the faulty connector on the rear?
or you think i need to re-install the software or maybe update the driver?
i tried unplugging the usb and plugging it in a different slot.. and i noticed when i unplugged it and plugged it back in.. it didnt make the disconnect/connect sound...
stupid thing..

How old is your screen? Does your computer have a device in the Device Hardware Manager that is a URTC with the yellow question mark? If so, the driver you need is, which is available here: http://www.liyitec.com/touchpanelscr...t_download.htm
Windows
9X/ME/2K/XP
Version3.3.4
RS232 / PS2 (1.54MB) 3/09/05
