lilliput power problem

Hi there.... I'm a noobie. i recently bought a lilliput from the mp3car store and with joy recieved it today

... I went straigt to the car and powered it from the cigerate lighter and all was fine. When i came home from college i decided to power it from my pc powersupply using the 12 volt rails. Unfortunatly the unit did not power on, I switched the polarity of the cables to the lilliput round but still no look. Now the unit won't power on from with in the car. I guess i've gone and blown sumthing (not just my money) is there sumthing obvious which is likely to of blown and that i can replace??

yes, 2 things are blown. The lcd controller, and your spellcheck. Something, not sumthing. (JK)

Jk again. Seriously, you probably reversed polarity and smoked the controller. Open it up and take close up pics of the controller. There may be a fuse that can be replaced.

Reversing polarity is usually a bad thing. Some items can stand it for a short spell, other's can't. You might have just blown a diode; possibly replaceable.

If your dead in the water, I might wanna buy the dead unit off you. (or at least I'd wanna buy he ciggy adapter, i blew mine and don't feel like trouble shooting it)

hi... thanks for the responses, I had a look inside the lilliput and there is no obvious damage. I can't see any fuses inside there either, i'll have a closer look later. Is it possible to order a new lcd controller from somewhere?? Do you reakon I could use any old LCD controller to get the screen on?

well i looked inside the screen and this time i noticed the 1.5a Fuse. I tend not to mess around with monitors as a rule and so when I started looking for a fuse i didn't expect it to be so small lol

I by passed it and the screen powers up

Obviously, that fuse is there for a reason. It saved the monitor from permanent damage. You might want to replace that fuse.

Dood its a lilliput... you best replace that fuse asap else ur gonna have a 200 dollar paperweight soon.

Should be about right. The thing uses about 1 amp when powered, and it is a general rule to fuse at 150% or rated power use. You should be fine with a 1.5 or 2.0 amp fuse.
