Removing screen from casing

Is it possible to open the case and mount the screen without the casing and mounting the electronics board else where to save room? The internal cables for the screen would need to be extended. Has anyone done this? I have limited room, and this would save me a lot.

Most people remove the casing. The link above has some good information on it.
