Super - Xenarc Connector type question.

Hi everyone, posted this as well in the input devices section..but no luck there. Anyone know if the main connector for the Super and Xenarc LCD are the same type? I am trying to track down what type of connector it is without any luck. I assume it is some type of centronics connector (like the HPCN36), but it only has 13 pins (well looks like 26, that is 13 on the top and 13 on the bottom). Anyone know what type of connector it is? It was suggested to check Digi-key, but I couldn't figure out which connector it was.

Thanks.

Yea...I saw that, that is why I was asking if the Xenarc and Super are the same. It appears that the Xenarc is a 20 pin connector, but the Super is a 26.

Thanks for the link, but I am still left wondering if the Xenarc and Super are the same, and I am somehow mis-counting the pins. Tried a number of searches without a clear answer. Anyone know?

Thanks.

well if you look at your connector and then the xenarc and they are not the same then surely the answer is no!

Well ..pictures are one thing..and since I know there are several versions of the Xenarc, trying to make sure. Maybe I am missing something... is not the point of this forum to exchange ideas, get help, get other people's opinions on the subject. Obviously if I was certain I had the answer...would not be posting the question.

If you have anymore suggestions, great, otherwise you are really not helping me out. Someone out there must have directly compared them... or knows the answer

look, why don't you try posting a pic of the super connector. not may people buy that monitor (cos it's a POS)

the xenarc came with 2 damn connectors. there are pics of both on the forum. comparing them to what you have infront of you is not exactly rocket science. infact i am sure my cat could do that!

well from what I have seen in rare pics the PCB is somewhat low-tech like the old lilliputs. The best made controller I have seen is the new linITX plus and the latest Xenarc.

There is just something about them that shows they are well made.

I understand man...you paid 400 bucks for yours...has to be justified somehow No doubt Xenarc is good...probably not the best but good. Really I wonder in a blind "taste" test..how many could tell the difference on screen quality. In terms of build quality, only time will tell if they stand up or not.

Here is a picture of both sides if anyone can help. Definently 26 pin, I think it may actually be a Sharp LCD connector - would make sense if it is indeed a sharp scree.

well it's deffo nothing like the xenarc cnnector thats for sure.

1. as you you know it has more pins

2. the DFP on the new xenarc/gain does not have pins like that.

so that concludes this thread...back to the other one....

oh and how much did your 'Super' cost you? Gain screens only cost $280 from digitalww

Ah..that only concludes is this the same connector as the Xenarc part of this thread..and NOT the main point...what type of connector is it.

As to cost, 180 shipped.

Inside the connector it also says "MCR 26S" if that means anything to anyone. it, but no real luck.

well 26S is for the number of pins hehe

and don't knock Pi*sed off, he is a bloody genious and is a damn nice guy.

I would suggest scouring mouser and digikey in the US and also farnell and Radio spares in the UK.

Hey guys, I don't know what ever became of this thread...but i think

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/626/930.pdf

or, if you prefer digikey....

http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T062/0040.pdf

the 26 pin variety in there will work with the Super LCDs. I'm not sure if it's the C or the D series. I'm gonna have to look up those datasheets @ 3M. Can anyone confirm this? I'm gonna try to do a custom cable for myself.

EDIT: Looks like "C" is solder cup, "D" is IDC wiremount. I have no clue what IDC wiremount is, so i guess solder cup is what i'll probably go for. I really wish they had some sort of 90 degree connector.

EDIT AGAIN: #3 on the digikey sheet might be a right angle pin through hole connector....a little fancy soldering and some hot glue might make that the ticket.

LAST EDIT: Is IDC wiremount the "snap on" connectors that will bite straight into a ribbon cable? if that's the case, buying a male wiremount & female wiremount would make for a nice low profile extension to then use the octopus connector with the super. Quick, no soldering, less chance of crossing your wires. Has anyone attempted this before?
