composite -> vga

well, i know everyone want to do vga -> composite, but i want to run a vga screen in the back of my car with my playstation hooked up to it.

if found this, but is there any way i can build this something like this on my own, cuz all i need is the composite to vga function. i know it isnt too expensive, but im always up for a challenge.

any ideas welcome...

in this case, IMO, you'd be better off hacking one of those PSX -> VGA boxes.... Converting VGA <--> RF is not an easy task... just look at what all those cards look like. Hacking up a prefab box would give you flexibility to do what you want with half the effort.

thats what i figured i was going to have to do. plus, with that vga-box, i would be able to split the vga signal and have it show up on the front and back screens, so the people in back would be able to see what is playing. and then if they want to use the playstation, all they have to do is flip the switch and the input changes. $40 isnt too bad for something im gonna hack apart

I bit of a last resort, but have you thought about buying a cheap TV card for your car PC, and running the PS through the PC. I realise it's not what you want to do, but it might be your only option.

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

well, that option does bring up an interesting variation on my original plan. it would allow me to view the psx on both the front and rear monitors, but then again, that would also probably make it more likely for me (driving) to occasionally look at the game screen when i shouldn't be. it also makes the screen in front more likely to be scrutinized by law enforcement, because as it stands now, it is only going to be for winamp and visualizations (maybe dvd if im waiting in the car for someone). if i get pulled over and they see playstation on the front monitor, i'll be in deep dog poo. but if i didnt care about that, this would be a good option. thanks
