Touchkit problems

I have an open-frame 7" AU Optronics touchscreen and it has the touchkit 4-wire USB touchscreen panel on it. For some reason, the touch panel requires a very hard touch to even register anything, despite the LED on the touchscreen controller lighting up when I touch the panel. The upper left corner doesn't hardly work at all. However, if I turn off the LCD, it works perfectly! I don't get it, the LCD and touchscreen controller aren't even electrically connected in any way, how can the LCD being on affect it?

Anyone seen this behavior before, like when you dismantled a Lilliput or Xenarc (I believe they both use the Touchkit too)?
