I want to connect a character LCD up to my carputer using a USB line.
So far the most accessable means seems to be a HD44780 to serial (DB-9) board then use a USB to DB-9 adapter (which emulates a COM port).
So... these are the HD-44780 to DB-9 boards i've been able to find.

The last interface from HVM tech says it works as a Matrix Orbital LCD (so it should work with anyplugin that supports a MO LCD), but the HVM people said -
Quote:
The Econo-LCD kit is designed to be connected to TTL-leve RS-232 signals. Connecting it to a serial port will destroy it.
Could it be converted to work with RS-232?
has anyone tried any of the other interfaces? (do they work as a MO or Crystal Fontz displays?)
how about building one? i think my school has a pic programmer now.......
