How to get TV-Out to display windows start up screen
I have a ATI Radeon 32mb PCI with TV out. I hook up the RCA cable to the LCD screen, and turn on the PC. Computer boots, but screen is blank. LCD will only display when explorer boots. I do not get the classic "Windows ME" splash screen. Not a huge deal, but I was wondering if there is any way to make it appear on the screen on boot up? Thanks!

The resolution on the Windows startup screen is 640x480. Maybe it's a mode that the LCD doesn't support.

I guess it's a card deal. My ATI Rage 128 shows everything, including startup screens, BIOS messages, memory testing, etc.

personally I will prefer if I can get a vid card like AdamF's when I get my TV-OUT card, I dont really want all the BIOS/memory crap on the screen..... just kick straight into my mp3car application.
I dare say the windows drivers are what enable the TVOUT mode.... the best you could maybe do is get a DOS driver that could switch on TVOUT in autoexec.bat, then u might get the WinME screen, but I dont think you could get the BIOS opening messages, etc...

Just the windows splash screen would make me happy, although it would be nice to see the bios messages. If the computer hangs up while booting up, I'd like to be able to know whats going on.

Its not a matter of drivers when it comes to dos. It should output to any connected video source by default. Try hooking up the tv out to a tv and see if you see the boot info. also, check to see what your computer is set to display to first, pci or agp.

I dont think you read AdamF's original post correctly.... this is the problem he is having.... the TV-OUT is NOT enabled by the video card hardware by default
just to clear that up for you..

I will explore the bios a little bit too, but the Compaq bios is pretty limited. I tried hooking it up to a 27" TV and a 7" LCD and it does the same thing on both TV's. I also tried disabling the CRT monitor and only enabling the TV out in the software settings, but no luck. Thanks for your help!

i have the EXACT SAME video card which i installed this past week and tried it out in the car. it worked without any problems. i plugged in the s-video->RCA thing, plugged in the rca patch cable into that, and plugged the other end into my 5" partsexpress lcd. it worked straight out of the box. hope this may help.

Right, I got that much, but there aren't any drivers for that videocard for dos, and even if there were, loading them wouldn't do any good. You dont by chance have a second videocard in the machine, do you?

Yes, it has onboard AGP crappy video. I can disable it in the bios, but I tried playing with it last night and now i get a constant "windows protection error, please restart your machine" looks like a i have to reinstall windows.

Id be willing to wager money that the bios post screen and winme boot logo are defaulting to the onboard video. And there isnt an option in the bios to pick which to display to (agp/pci).

Yes, there were 2 options in different places. One was already turned on, and the other wasnt. I turned the 2nd option off for the onboard video, and now Im having the OS problems.
