Let's say the cost to them worked out to be $50 per unit, would it still be "fair" then?
This is freaking capitalism. Everything is fair. You don't have to buy it if you think the price is too high. I can write a stupid piece of software that does nothing but raise your volume up and down and sell it for $200. It's still fair. Just that no one is gonna buy it.

And anyway my point still stands - if I suspect a company inflates the price on something beyond a reasonable expectation of R&D, costs and "acceptable profits" and its a product I can't practically do without, then chances are I'll only ever buy that one product from them, and shop around with other places for other parts of my install.
Yup. Exactly. YOU have the choice, not the company. Don't like it, don't buy it.

I don't feel like I have a choice though, that's the rub. If I want a vaguely readable screen in sunlight then this is pretty much the only option. They know it, I know it. And maybe I am being a little cynical in thinking that this state of affairs is maybe reflected in the price.
By the same token I might think I have a choice about whether I want to buy and run Microsoft Windows on my home gaming PC, and if we're arguing semantics I do have a choice, but not if I want to actually be able to do anything on my PC (e.g. play games, etc). What's the alternative?
I'm just saying the choice isn't as black and white as you suggest.

Like I said. Don't like it, don't buy it. No one cares if you can't live without a transflective screen or Microsoft Windows.

you don't HAVE to run a computer in your car, you DO have a choice.

I'm gonna be buying it anyway, so nerrr...
I don't think I could deal with the stress of not being able to see the screen properly in my car.

I hardly feel that any company involved (mp3car or FPD) is gouging prices on these screens.
Is it more expensive than a standard lilliput?
Sure
However one must compare it with other products that meet similar requirements. Lets delve into that for a second. The point of this product first and foremost is sunlight readability. Secondary factors include: 7inch screen size, touch screen, vga input, 800 x 600 resolution.
Other products that meet those requirements:
High Brightness LCD
and
Transreflective LCD
Requesting a price quote on the transreflective model above yields a range of 2100 - 2400 dollars depending on video input options (svideo for example) and touch screen type.
The High brightness model above clearly priced around $1000.
There are countless other such products, all much higher in price than what is offered here. And to top it off, they lack features inherent in lilliputs. No remote control, 4:3 as opposed to widescreen, additional video inputs cost more to add on... etc.
The point is THIS product IS the cheapest most feature filled Transreflective display currently on the market. Please stop compairing it to a stardard xenarc or lilliput, and compare it to its real sunlight readable competition. Finally a product is offered that maintains sunlight readability, but negates the industrial-esque cost associated with it.
Cheap is a relative term, just look at what is being offered before denoucing it as a rip-off of sorts.

It isn't about me not waiting.. I bought my screen close to a year ago when the transreflective upgrade wasn't even being thought about

What happens when you buy something, and a newer, better, faster, better looking version comes out?
You sell what you have and buy the new one, or deal with the one you have.

Hey Zip-Lock,
Have there already been so many pre-orders that the next batch at the end of July are already sold out? Or are there enough coming that we can still place an order now and expect it to ship by the end of July?

I'd also like my question on the bezel answered if possible.
I don't think I have the confidence to build the screen from several seperate parts.
Will the ones available in July be shipped in their original bezels? (i.e. as if they were regular Lilliput LCD monitors) ?

There's still time if you order now and get in on the next batch.

Yes, that's not a problem. Having a monitor come with a bezel will soon be the standard option.

Any update on this, especially on one in a G35 mount?
Thanks
