I have one question about this screen...

how is the veiwing from odd angles. With my Xenarc 700TSV screen that i had, if i was watching a video.. it is almost unwatchable unless if i am looking at the screen dead on. If i look at it from any angle, the dark colors are unwatchable and u lose all enjoyment of it.

In my new car, im going to fab the screen into the dash,so im not gonna be able adjust it to my sitting angle i was in the car like i did with my xenarc in the indash houseing, so it is important that i get a screen that has good viewability from angles other than strait on.

I would also like to see an option for having current screens retrofitted with the transreflective technology. After spending close to $500 ...

I heard while back in the news that nec or sharp came out with a transreflective LCD straight from factory... anybody heard that?

That doesn't morally justify price-hiking something like this for no other reason except the fact that there is little/no alternative though. If it costs them $300 to make these things and they're selling them for $649, then that goes beyond the realms of acceptable profiteering imo.

Simply saying "don't buy it then!" or "theres little/no other option" doesn't change this fact and is ultimately counter-productive. You can also argue that "that's just business!" or whatever until you're blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that it's pretty dodgy to gouge customers simply because there are no competitors. When I suspect companies of doing this sort of thing I typically end up only buying that one item from them once (because I don't have a choice), and never doing business with them again.

As the old saying goes - you can fleece a sheep any number of times, but you can only skin it once.

(I'm not suggesting they do manufacture these at a cost of $300, for all I know they might only just break even.. Im just arguing the principal of what you've said)

Anyone know if the touch panel is an upgraded lilliput or if it is swapped out for something else??

Can this be modified to use an indash housing? as in a single DIN unit that flips out either manually or motorised. I've got 2 DIN slots, but want to keep my existing SONY headunit.
If this can be done... easily, how much would it cost and where would i get the gear from?
Otherwise I'm gonna have to find somewhere else to mount it.
