Congratulations to mp3car for offering a solution like this.

This enhancement is an entirely custom job. Each monitor has hours of engineering time put into it. That labor is done in the USA at USA engineer labor prices. Because this is such as new method and it is done in lower production volumes (under 1000 pcs) there is a cost premium. Also, each monitor is painstakingly tested and retested during the process to ensure that the brightness and contrast is uniform and consistent access the entire active display area. Hopefully that explains it a little. I know the price is high for now, but it will come down in time. I’m actively working on bring that price down to something more affordable.

very good!
I was under the impression that it was manufactured along the same lines (though not identical) as current TS.
Knowing that it is manufactured in this fashion explains the price quite a bit.
Unfortunately, in my situation, since I can fit an 8" and after having a 7" and making the switch to the 8", I can't justify the $$ for a 7". Any ideas on a time frame for the 8"? 2-3 months? 6 months? 1 year?

Oh and I forgot to mention that the touchscreen, is a whole other part of the process. It is individually matched to be optimized with the particular LCD panel is sold with. That is the reason that the touchscreens cannot be sold individually in this case.

679.00 is pretty steap for lilliput WITH OUT A CASING. A lilliput from the manufacturer costs about $200.00. I know I bought a bulk of them once for a group of friends. I dont know what the upgrade costs but the film that is used is only $175.00 on the FPD website. All though this is a Cool *** developement, the price is pretty high. Reasonable cost would be about $450.00 maybe $500.00. But close to $700.00 for a 7 inch screen.
whoa My entire setup with the car cost about $2800.00. This would be 1/4 of my total project cost. Would bump my total project cost to about $3300.00.
Raise your hand if you wanna drop that on a car computer setup.
Sorry for the hard criticism but I was just a little surprised

Yes Jaguar, it is expensive, but don't forget the price of the new touchscreen too. So you are paying for the Lilliput monitor, the transflective film, a new touchscreen to match, and US engineering labor. The price makes sense to me.

I ordered one. My custom made bezel was for a Lill 629 and I already have a solution for my backup camera so this is perfect. I'll be happy.

Hey Zip-Lock, will you post a link to the write-up done by the FPD guy that explains the difference in LCDs? I think it would help to clarify why the upgrade is priced how it is, once people better understand the process and labor involved. That write-up was great, very informative regarding different LCD technologies...

Sure, it's here in the second half of the post: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/lcd-display/78301-faq-transflective-technology.html

So the touch screen will come un-attached? How much larger is the touch screen than the OEM one (i.e, how much will the bezel opening need to be expanded to avoid interfering with the TS)?
