Touchscreen will NOT work

Alright, Ive searched and searched, and even found the post about the TS being a soldering problem. I have no idea what else to do.

So, I bought this Lilliput from mp3car store, installed it in my car. I did not touch any of the cabling with a soldering iron, and when I went to make it touchscreen, it wouldnt work. Turns out that the connector (mid cable barrel connector) had a bent pin. I straightend it and alls well. It works fine.
Then it stops working. I upgrade the software and THAT fixes it, it works fine. Then it craps out and now nothing will bring it back. Everytime I plug it in, Windows XP says 'unknown USB device) If I install the drivers, the software sees nothing on the USB side. If I manually install the drivers, it says that there are no devices that need those drivers.
So, Im at a dead end.

Heres my question, anyone know a fix? OR where I can order a female USB to female RS232 (Serial) so that I can go through the COM port rather than USB OR where I can order a whole new cable, from the screen to the computer?
Im at a dead end and completely stuck right now.
Thanks.

Why don't you return it and get a replacement?

dont think its anything to do with hardware I think you have windows issues. If you had to keep updating drivers and it works that doesnt point to bad hardware. Try uninstalling the TS drivers completely including deleting the DLL's ones you have removed it from the device manager. Reinstall and see how you get on.

ill try it, do you know which dll's need to be removed? And this is on a fresh windows install by the way. Its never worked on this install. My origional harddrive crashed, this is the second one. And I have hardly any other programs installed on the computer.

I have had this problem and found stability WITHOUT hardwiring the USB cable to the controller. In researching this problem throughout this forum I came across a posting of another member who directed everyone toward this USB troubleshooting sight.

http://www.usbman.com/USB_Guides.htm

This entire sight was extremely helpful and very well written. I discovered my problem was not the USB device itself but more the USB Host controller drivers and the chipset on my MB. I have the problem with SiS 7001 Host Controllers, and so I updated my drivers to the Standard Open HCL USB Host Controller. Along with other patches I came across, my Touch Screen has survived many reboots and a couple of crashes. Also I am using the drivers found on DigitalWW. They seem to install in the correct way.
