Question 1020TSV Functions - How do they look?

I am considering buying a 1020TSV. I have read the manual at the Xenarc site, but it didn't describe these functions in any great detail. This monitor has one VGA and two NTSC video inputs. The specs say it has PIP and split-screen functions. Can anyone describe how these work...how they look?

Here's what it says in the manual: To use the Split Display function, users need to select which controller you want to launch this function.
  • Can the PIP and split functions be activated upon power to the camera? Resized? Is this what is meant by the quote from the manual? What is the "controller"?
  • Can the PIP function contain video when the VGA is active? Visa-versa? Two video?
Thanks,

Well I am a happy owner of 1020TSV (man it's big! and maybe I can help you. You have to activate PiP by yourself... means... PiP will not be automatically turned on when you will connect AV2 input (camera). In case you have PiP always on and no signal on AV2, there will be a blue color on AV2 area. If you need any other details, ask and I can also send you a pictures.

But I have to warn you about one issue that 1020TSV has (and not only mine... my friend also bought it and it is the same in his case). First.. we bought screen last summer (2005), both of us and when plugging a camera we realized that it doesn't switch automaticaly to AV on signal of camera. After few days I realized I have to switch camera to AV2 (not AV1) and select option in menu "AV2 first=ON"... by default it is set to OFF. But an issue I have found immediately... options is not saving when LCD lost the power... it was OFF again when I turned it on. So everytime I turned of the LCD I had to set that option in menu (back to ON). I contacted Xenarc and European dealer and they confirmed it is an issue and it will be fixed.

Now after 1 years I bought 1020TSV for my uncle and of course I was exciting if they fixed the issue and I tried to repeat the steps... everything worked fine... Option in menu was saved when poweroff and on again. Great! but no!

Here is another issue found in few minutes I got new LCD and here is an email I have just sent to Xenarc and European dealer:

Quote:
Dear Sir/Maddam!

I have to say I found another issue regarding to a previous one ("AV2 first" was not saving when power off). This one is now fixed, "AV2 first" = ON is saving as it should, but there is another problem. If I turn the LCD on and I have connected it to RGB, picture is great, I see computer desktop. Then I turn on the menu and set "AV2 first" = ON and close the menu. Now when I put signal on AV2 it automatically switch to AV2 and when I put off a signal from AV2, it switches back to RGB and this is perfect. But, when I power off the LCD and turn it on again, there is not picture... neither AV2, neither RGB... so I have to go in menu, set "AV2 first" to OFF and as soon as I do that, RGB picture appears - everything back to normal. Then I can select "AV2 first" = ON again and everything is ok till I power off the LCD. If I have set "AV2 first" to OFF, everything works as it should... RGB appears as soon as I turn on the LCD.

If you try the following steps you can repeat the issue and you will see how it looks like:
1. Connect LCD to computer (VGA) and turn both on. Picture of computer appears on LCD.
2. Then go to menu and set "AV2 first=ON".
3. Power off the LCD.
4. Turn on LCD again and there will be no picture. If you want to have it, you have to go to menu and set "AV2 first" to OFF. At that moment picture from computer will be back.

I look forward for your reply!

Best regards!

Uros

I also asked one of my friend to try this on his 700TSV but everything is working fine... so only 1020TSV issue. But otherwise, great LCD! I am really happy with it!

Thanks, Uros. Well, I am new to these in-car pannels, but it seems they do not have advanced features. I was hoping for an automatic split screen when camera comes on. It sounds like Xenarc is quick to work on the problems, which is good. Also, glad to see that they respond to user questions.

Maybe one more question, if you can answer. Can main input be Video1 and PIP (or split screen) be Video2? So, two camera (or two DVD) can be displayed on the screen at the same time? Or, does one input always have to be VGA?

Thank you,

RGB/AV2

but not sure for AV1/AV2 or AV2/AV1

According to the folks at Xenarc, AV1/AV2 is possible. Is $499 a good price for a new 1020TSV?
