VM7000 / Lilliput 629GL-70NP Fried Monitor

Hey guys. I have purchased a VM7000 monitor (which is the same as Lilliput 629GL-70NP) which I only managed to get it work for 10 days. I opened it to check and found out that it has a fried transistor.

The transistor is at 'Q5' position on the pcb (removed from the board) and it looks the same as the transistor at position 'Q6' which is just under 'Q5'.
I looked to find the same transistor but the guy at the shop told me that the number that is writen on it is not its real part number and that I should find the real part number in order to fix it.
So if anyone knows the real part number of the transistor it would be a really big help to me.

Hi Andreas. I know my post is quite a while after your original, but I've got the same touchscreen with the same problem. Though, my Q5 transistor appears to have burned a bit worse than yours as I have a somewhat charred board around that part.:O/ I guess my vm7000 was tired after working hard for a whole 30 days before burning up! I also noticed the toroid had most of its resin melted off too ... did yours look screwy at all? That might help explain some of the icky flicker on the screen when it was working but shouldn't have caused any other issues I don't think ... just means this thing is poorly designed and doesn't dissipate heat well.:O(

Did you actually try using it in your car? Mine never made it out of the house. Something tells me I'll need to find a use for this thing other than in the car, assuming I can fix it.?

Anyway, I've done a bit of googling myself but can't seem to find any reference to the label printed on that part -- were you eventually able to resolve a real part name/number? I'm debating on whether I should even mess with it though ... even if I can fix it, this thing clearly has a heat problem and I'd rather not have to replace transistors every month in order to use it. Something tells me I'd be better off buying an LCD made warrantied by a *real* company and not generic "white-box" OEM like this thing.

Hi Rob
I havent found the real part number yet.
But I have a new Lilliput 629GL (2006 model) now and I will take it off its case to put it in the car. If they have the same boards with the VM7000 I will check the transistor's part number and let you know.
As for the burned transistor it had something like AB RW written on it if I remember correctly - if this helps you.

As for the flickering I've heard that they had a problem with the old screens on lilliputs (dont know if this applies with the VM7000) because they supported only 800X480 resolution. And since my motherboard's (Via Epia SP13000) minimum resolution is 800X600 this may was the problem with the flickering. I think that they changed the screens on the new (2006) lilliputs to resolve this problem.

Hey Andreas. Thanks for taking the time to look. And my apologies for not replying sooner ... I was on vacation for a few weeks and not dinking around with side projects during that time.:O)

Were you able to check your new screen for the same transistor part number? Any info you can provide on that would be great! I'd still like to salvage this silly thing if I can and finally move this project into my truck where it belongs -- plus clearing some desktop space will make the wife a little happier too I think.:O)

Also, if it turns out the lilliput screen comes with the same board layout could you please also check the manual for a tech support phone # or e-mail? Might be worth a shot to send a blind ping and see if they come back with some useful info on the PN.?

Anyway, thanks again for your time ... I do appreciate the help.

Rob-

I have an extra 629GL controller board. One of the diodes blew, and I ended up just buying a new one. The piece that you need is intact on mine. If you want to buy it, I'll sell it to you fairly cheap. Just shoot me a PM.

Anyway, checked the monitor today and the board turned out to be the same with the VM7000. There are some differences on the parts they use - you can compare the pics with the old ones.
On the transistor at 'Q5' says 'DG T2G' (im not sure about the G; it may be 6).
