I have a 40x4 lcd on a really long (5 meter) cable and it works perfectly fine on on of my computers. On the mp3 computer, it displays serious garbage no matter how high I set delays. This is for both markus's plugin and WinLCD. I have tried adding a PCI parallel port card and that wont display anything. (yes i set it to 378) Any ideas?

Two things,

Check the BIOS setting for the ports(s)

Try putting 10K pull up resistors on the nStrobe (pin 1) and the nSelect Printer (pin 17)

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)

I struggled with a garbage display for over a week... till i found out i mixed up some pinout diagrams for the paralle port... instead of this order :

3 4
5 6 ...

i had

1 4
2 5
3 6...

it was a simple mistake reading the manual for the port. Check your connections once again.
