Xenarc display problems

hey guys.

I just finished the fabrication of a 7" xenarc widescreen into the dash of my 300zx. When I fired it up, the display is of a very poor quality. It has a yellow tinge to it. It happens with any computer I try. It worked perfectly before I pulled it apart. The Ribbon cable circled in the attached picture was accidentl removed during the install. Could this cause such symptoms?

Any advice much appreciated.

Pete (Dr Z)

Yes it could very well be the ribbon cable. Make sure it is in there well. Search around and you will find other display issues and what they did to fix it. Most of them were driver issues, resolution issues, or that ribbon cable. I had a proble with my xenarc after I had everything installed. I had to pull it all out again to mess with the ribbon. All is good now. The one thing I know for sure is if you let the magic white puff of smoke out, it won't work anymore.

I have a very similar proble, but I ended up getting a white screen all the time. It wasn't the ribbon, but the actual solder connection to the controller. I have somebody trying to repair it, but I'm thinking it might need a new controller.

Certainly re-seat the ribbon cable first

Anyone know where to get a replacement clip for that cable (the one on the screen end)? IIRC it was a slider on that end (and a hinge on the controller end). It looks like the mp3car.com store sells the cable, and I have been able to find the cables on mouser.com and digikey, but there are so many versions of that connector, I can't seem to find the right one, any ideas?

Thanks for your help everyone

reinserted the ribbon cable and it now works perfectly, except that sometimes it flickers back to the dodgy state. I will tape it in place and hopefully that will do the trick.

On a side note - the Xenarc screens are absoultely awesome! so glad I paid the extra $$$ to get a quality product.

AArrgghhhh! It was all working perfectly, then after putting the plastic casing back on, it isn't working anymore - the backlight doesnt come on. The green power light comes on, the touchscreen is working - as I can control the computer from it, but I cannot see anything. What does this mean?

cheers

pete

I found what ws causing that problem

the cable coming out of the back of the screen (combined VGA and USB touchscreen) is very sensitive - ive had to tape it in exactly the right position to get a picture. Has anyone else had a similar problem? any permenant solutions?

Sooo frustrating

I have nothing now - no backlight, no image - just the green power light. Ive searched, and it seems manyy people have problems with the input connector lifting off the circuit board. This would explain why I had to have the cable in a certain position.

My question is tho (havent been able to work this out from searching) would a lifting input connector cause the backlight to not turn on as well as no image be displayed? the Touch screen part works normally, just no image or backlight.

Anyone in or near Brisbane good with a soldering iron?

thanks for everyones help
