High brightness/contrast, low res or monochrome
Hi
First of all, i've searched!
I am looking for a screen that i can use to output text and some primitive graphics like drawing gauges and needles on them. This will be for standalone engine management.
Needless to say i need it high contrast/brightness to be able to see it clearly in all light conditions.
I understand that 1000+ nits VGA monitors cost upwards of $3,500 which is too much for me to spend, i'd be willing to sacrifice color and high resolution for a unit that will get the job done (nothing fancy).
I can also write my own drivers, so software is not an issue
Thanks
Alex

if you don't want to spend big bucks on a highbright screen, look to transflective screens....
a few more clues would also be nice, what size for example

thanks for reply
i am quite flexible on size and resolution. Important thing is that it should be easily readable and have some kind of interface to hook up to a carPC, and not break the bank.

just showing this, incase you haven't seen it... check the 5.6 on the bottom too
this can be built as standalone too, since it seems your not even interested in a pc friendly display, text & simple graphics can be done with a microcontroller or 2 independant of a pc, & still give pc interaction...

I would say go with this military grade Matsu****a 9.75" LCD.
I comes for the awesome price of $7.75!
Check the spec sheet and reviews for helpful tips.
P.S.
I'd buy it myself, but I haven't the time to research and develop things to make it work.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention...
The same retailer (they're local, so I know what they've got) carries this 8.8" Seiko-Epson backlit LCD.
Unlike the LCD in my previous post, this one has a standard resolution of 640x480.
If you read the reviews, John Purbric from Boston was the first person to get this to work.
Though the link to the pic is no longer valid, I remember seeing that the image was made up of bright light-brown pixels over a dark background.
Again, the price is dirt cheap at $11 a piece.
