 Thanks!
I've just put the screen together.
(This is my Bordmonitor with 480x800 LCD and the required additional digital LCD-controller inside screen)
I am really excited. I've made quite a few detours before I got to this point. Its been 18 mounts since I started to bid on a Bordmonitor on eBay.
What is left in terms of hw is
1) to put DL065A mainboard into Bordmonitor house and
2) to investigate the thread ( http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=50351) about a new BIOS to MII12000 in order to get 480x800. If not, that's not a big deal as I've solved it with a pci graphics board, but it would be nice to get rid of it and buy a smaller case. And
3) There is also some small things left like power-on and remote control of poweramp. I'll probably make a small pcb with glue.
Rest is sw. So in a year or so.... :-)

more pics
I was very positively surprised by the picture quality of the LCD! And it is sun bright! I will have to adjust brightness somehow...
This illustrates resolution before and after. Picture is not taken under equal conditions, but you get an idée...
I'm sooo happy!

Like I said, if you want to replace the one in their to use with the stock system, then you are in the wrong place. Also, it will be difficult to get a carputer working on that screen. If you want to use it with a carputer, and remove the stock screen and put the new screen where the old one is, that can be done easily, and with a FAR superior unit. Just search the forum. If you want to just ask the question, and do what you want anyway, then why ask the question?
Michael
hey no offense wiredwrx, but you dont know the extremes use bmw owners will go to when they want something. I didnt have the stock nav when I bought my x5 and people said it couldnt be done but I did it. This guy obviously found what he was looking for, good for him, great work.
I have a project where I need to mold my Xenarc in my x5 dash along with the stock nav and I dont know where to put it. I am thinking of taking the flip up screen from other model bmw's with nav and putting the xenarc in it and cutting a hole on the top of my dash to put the flip up module.
This site has a great deal of info that deals with modding bmws and using stock equipment with puters, just need to search and find it. good luck everyone.

Negativity is never a nice thing, but some people just don't know how to refrain from letting it all out. It saddens me.

DarthTater has done exactly that.

And this statement is for what. I TOLD the OP that to use a xenarc or lilli with the STOCK SYSTEM is difficult, and NOT a subject for this forum. I then said that if he wants to use a carputer, THAT IS VERY EASY AND DOABLE.
So, what does your statement mean?
Michael

Show me the "negativity" in THIS thread.
What a crock of crap.

when you get nice people like blof, saying things like:
Quote:
I'm sorry if you feel I wasted your time.
that indicates that you communicate in a very negative manner, which I now understand you are completely obilvious to.
The fact that JPuma also had something to say about the subject, though not as blunt as me, is another indicator. arrogant statements like:
Quote:
If you want to just ask the question, and do what you want anyway, then why ask the question?
dont' buy you many brownie points with people.
you do have knowledge, but the way you communicate is very condescending and people will only develop a ****ty image of you.
here's an excersise for you, go have a look at some old threads you've written in the past, which are no longer fresh in your current affairs, and see if you can notice anything about them.
anyway, I'm no shrink. I've tried to explain the negativity and hopefuly you can benefit from this.

I see, so the first 3 posts I made in this thread don't exist? Only the LAST LINE of the 4th POST, after NICELY posting the same information 4 times, is indication of my "NEGATIVE COMMENTS"
First, I don't make excuses for how I speak or act. Too bad if you don't like it. I could care less what it sounds like. BUT, in this thread, I was nice in 4 posts, till that last statement, which, I muight add, I don't see as "negative" because the OP kept asking the same thing over and over after I posted 3 times the same information NICELY.
AND, in http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...6&postcount=12, last line, he thanks me. He must have really been bothered, felt I was negative, to have thanked me.
You don't like it, tough.
Michael

And mainboard into BordMonitor
Not quite done but almost there. I've modified the Bordmonitor house a bit:

(red boxes)
I've removed a few things from the DL065A mainboard that I wont need.
1) the power amp chip,
2) the tuner module and its connector,
3) the main connector for speakers and power, and I've
4) put the big 470uF capacitor on wires.
I thought that I had to remove the whole power supply and put it outside somewhere. It was a great surprice that I could use it as is.
Note the "CD marker" markings where the flexistrip will enter the house.
This includes my DVD with Dl065A slim IDE to USB pcb. (but I admit there are a few other things missing...)

holy smitherines! you're sticking the CD in there as well! Does the boardmonitor housing already have a slit for the CD or is that something you'll have to make also?
keep up the great work.

Will this succeed...
Forgive me for adding more pictures. Its just so fun right now
The DL065A LCD controller board is here located on top of the Bordmonitor main pcb. You can see the slit for the flexistrip in the front aligned with the connectors on the pcb.
Seeing is beleiveing.
Everything (almost) in place. The hole I originally made for the DVD USB connector will now let powercables out of the Bordmonitor.
What you see holding the DVD agains the back of the bordmonitor is acctually a bracket meant to hold a 9V battery in place. Fits perfect.

I have one question that I have put on HackTheIbus without answer.
Where can I exit cables from the Bordmonitor? I've never seen the dash from behind.
Is there space in the back for composite-usb-vga cables?
Is there space just over the blue and white connector for powercables from hole in red box shown in last picture?
Appreciate if someone could tell me even if it is a very specific E46 BMW question.
Regards, B-O
