Touchscreen overlays

Id like to add touchscreen control to my system but I have a small problem.. The display I am using is a Kenwood in-dash TV which is touchscreen itself. The touchscreen itself is pretty much disabled during AV-input, as it is used to operate the CD changer and Radio.

Does anyone know what would happen if I placed another overlay over the top? Would they interfere with each other? Id write the code so that the overlay is disabled whilst I use the CD Player and Radio. Would my presses transmit through the top layer to the original, when the top is disabled?

Also, if this could work, it would need to be very thin as the screen folds away. Does anyone know of a good source of these?

Normally, in the touchscreens the film is glued on top of a thin piece of unbreakable glass.
The film alone, as far as i know, is hard to find. Is normally an OEM product, that requires minimum order quantities of hundreds pieces.
So i suggest you to find a cheap commercial touch screen (e-bay??), and try to detach the film, with the help of acetone. I say cheap, because all this procedure is VERY risky.
Then if you manage to attach this film on top of the factory attached, it will work. Dont forget, that if you will want the bottom film to respond to the touch, you must press harder,.

Arby is on a distinguished road
Or, equally risky, you could open up your expensive screen and try to hack the touchscreen interface.

If it's four wire analog, you may have a chance!

What if the exisiting touchscreen is of the type that uses field scanning, would that leak through the resistive touchscreen layer meaning that I wont have to press hard? I thiunk their called cleartouch or something like that.
