Reverse Polarity, Xenarc
Okay so I've fallen victim to stupidity and I incorrectly hooked up my power to my Xenarc. I reversed the polarity. It is fried so I did a search so my question is, is there anyway to easily fix it besides buy a new board? I ask since the last post I found was in the beginning of the year so I wasn't sure if someone figured it out. If not do I just replace the controller board?
Thanks,
Chris

it depends what you fried. More than likely a new controller board. Probably jsut as easy to buy a whole new unit.

Crap, well I sent digitalww an email asking about what I need to replace. Hopefully they get back to me. Does anyone know the turn around time of xenarc on repairs? I know Armen is usually about a month.

likely you fried at least the power circuit in the main board. It kind of sucks they don't spend the extra few cents to put a freaking diode to protect the board. I am pretty sure you can buy just the board on the net , for almost the whole unit price though.

WTF? Unbelievable that they skimp on the diode, especially when commonly wired pluglessly into vehicles.

So has anyone dealt with the support center at Xenarc. My screen had been molded into a small dash piece and the buttons relocated so I hope I get it back the same way I send it in if I decide to go that route.

Somehow I think once you remove the "warranty void" sticker, and slap it into your dash, Xenarc has no responsability...

Well I was assuming I was going to have to pay for it, I was just wondering if it was worth the hassle. Also what are the signs of a fried board? I plug it into the power correctly (after i plugged it in incorrectly) and the LED doesnt even light up, no buttons work. I did a voltage check and it said 11.7 v so I figured it was close enough. Anyone have a clue? I checked the voltage on the board across a few resistors as well and it says 11.7 v as well so I feel as if the board is definitely getting power.
Does this mean I blew everything if the led doesnt even light? Or is 11.7 v not enough to start the screen?

Maybe a transistor or cap? Leds are diodes so not likely to actually break from reversing the power.

Well I started checking components on my board with a multimeter. I found that the first resistor is dead. However I'm not sure if I'm checking the capacitors the correct way, my multimeter says that all of them (15 or so) are not working. Is that even possible? the two large transistors however are fine, i'm going to try and replace the resistor to see if it helps. I'll keep you guys updated.

Weird, does it looked burned out? resistors don't have polarity so I'd be suprised if it got fried. dunno

Okay well I replaced the resistor to realize that the next cap was destroyed. But that makes sense since its the second component inline. The transistor happened to be fine however. So hopefully this will be the last component needing to be replaced.

I replaced a few more caps, but it didn't do anything. So I got an rma number and I'm going to send it in for repairs.
Sorry I completely forgot about this thread as I've been trying not to think about it. UGHHHH it makes me mad that they wouldn't throw in a few diodes to protect the circuit.

Future reference for others, probably a good idea to use two different connectors, spade on the ground side, plug on the + side. Or even a blade and a barrel so you can't make that mistake.
