Lilliput button board question

Hey guys my friend wants me to do the fabrication work in his matrix for him after seeing my screen, only thing is that he doesn't want the button board at all. I was wondering, If I were to unsolder it, do the auto on mod, and relocate the IR reciever (so he can use the remote to change settings if need be), would this create a problem? I'm also having him order two empty cases from digitalww to hack together a smaller case to put the lilliput into.
