First Project - Advice On Display

Hi all,

I'm looking at my first project for my first car in the coming months. I have a very good knowledge of computers and enjoy technology, so it should be fun .

I have a question about displays. At the moment, I'm leaning towards getting a Xenarc 700TSV, and I noticed it had several buttons along the bottom of the display. Can you customise any of these (by default or using 3rd party software). I am hoping I can create a setup where I push a button and the 'on screen keyboard' app in XP is displayed (I won't be using it that often, and don't fancy having a physical keyboard in my car).

If this is not possible, does anyone know of a display that has this feature? It would really come in handy.

Suggestions appreciated,
sugar05

Not out of the box. They are buttons like every other button, so you can get a controller that takes 2 wires (1 on each side of the button) and has about 8 of these available and then it simulates a keyboard key. So the keyboard key "~" for example could correspond to xp keyboard. Then whenever you push that button, the controller intercepts the signal, sends out "~" to the computer.

No screen has this natively.

Thanks for your reply. From what I understand, it is possible to simulate the pressing of a key on a keyboard, and that is then linked to an application launch (in this case, On Screen Keyboard). Given that no displays have this nativly, what is my best option for a 'controller' to perform this function (I want to keep clutter to a minimal).
