is a laptop replacement worh it?

I want a 15 inch screen, my truck stays very dark inside so visibility should be ok.

What is needed to make a laptop replacement screen function off a car pc?

Or would a lcd tv be the better way to go?

Or a lcd desktop monitor?

Most laptop replacement LCD take special controller board that are specific to that LCD and computer. If you have to go with a 15", I would go with a desktop LCD, they have the built in controller and accept VGA and will work right out of the box.

... unless you can use a motherboard with lvds video output, then the panel could be directly run ... provided you can make the right cable for it, or have it made...

this would also give you dual screen support, as you should still have an available vga output too

gotta go with a good panel though, or it'll suck during the day, & a desktop monitor will probably be brighter....
