Constantly removing the screen 7" lilliput advice

hi ive had my lilliput 7" screen fitted into my car for a few days and have realised just how much in an out of the car i do and how many times im going to need to connect and disconnect the screen if i have to carry it with me.

what i would love to do is mould it into the dash but my dash is old with no real space for a double din (mk2 golf) and without it being in the dash i will have to remove the screen.

what i want to know is what kind of damage can i do to the connectors if i constantly remove the screen from the car

the main connector im worried about is the rca and power lead connector it is attached with a push button that hooks the connector to the screen and can be quite difficult to get out.

i think what i will do is take the power off that lead and put it directly into the second power opening on the side of the screen meaning when i take the screen out i will not have to worry about the power disconnecting and reconnecting as i struggle to get the lead out as the power remains to my screen even when the ignition is off (untill i get some kind of power supply for my car pc)

is it possible to get an extension for that cable say an inch or so long so i can plug in and out of the extension instead of the screen reucing any possible damage i may do to the screen ? or should i not worry about it if i have no power going through that connection ?

thanks

do you smoke in your car? If not, put the screen in place of the ash-tray, it could easily be done with some bondo.

no but the ash tray is only small, i have an idea of where i might be able to mount it double din but that will mean loosing my window switches and relocating them, probably loosing my heater blower vents but i dont really use them anyway

any other advice?

i see what you mean, that is the place that houses my window switches mk2's with windows switches replace the ash tray with the switches and the ash tray moves down to where the pocket below would be, this is the place i was thinking of cutting up for the screen looks about the right size.

do you have any pictures of the screen fitted? i would apriciate it if you could et me some ? how does he find it mounted there?

I'll ask for him to take some pictures.... It's still in place, so I guess he's fine with it...

If you find you need to continue removing your screen, it may be possible to get something we call where I work, "Connector savers." We use these on RF connections, so I don't know if they make them for the connectors you are concerned about, but my guess is they do.

A connector saver is just a male to female adapter. So basically, it's like a little extension. If you have a female end and you plug the male end of the connector saver into it, you are left with a female end, just like the original. If you used one of these on each side of the connection, the connector savers will take all the abuse. When they die, you just pull them off, throw them away and put new ones on.

I doubt that you will find them under "connector saver." You will probably have to search under male to female adapter or maybe extender.

Good luck.
