For your trunk mounted PC's, wow far are you extending your LCD's power?

Xenarc 700TSV

I've had to extend the power about another 5-6 ft. using 14 ga cables for the LCD to reach the molex connector on my PC.

I tested the setup, in-car, before running the actual wiring and it was working okay, I suppose.

However, ever since I mounted the LCD to the fabb'ed bezel, my TS has been acting up.

Symptoms:
Power LED on, but no image and no TS
Occasional white screen
I can hear the TS beeping, but still, with no image.

Powering down fully and cutting off power completely and waiting about 20 mins. cures it, until I fiddle w/ the installation of the screen and bang, I'm back to square one.

I've checked my wiring and all is good.

I've also noticed that the screen is not as bright as used to be under the same setting. Even in daytime, I used to be able to view it okay, but now, I can barely make it out. That was before I extended the LCD power cables.

In addition, I used the 14 ga cables to run power/ground straight from the battery to the PSU. Again, I tested this setup in-car and everything appeared to be working properly.

If anyone can help give me some insight as how to tackle this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

TIA!

what screen do you have? if xenarc you need to check the internal ribbon cables they tend to move when fabricating. for the brightness it depends on how much current you supply, before installing in the car you probably used the external power supply which supplies 1 amp but with the computer psu it could be less..

hope this info helps

Ribbon cables are good. It was one of the first few things I checked after finding that in a search.

Powered down, waited another 30 mins. And it seems to be back to normal. Though still dimmer than I remember, but I suppose that's subjective.

I'm gonna undo the power wiring to see if that helps the brightness issue.

My PC is in the trunk with power tapped from molex through about 15 feet of 16 ga multiconductor to get to the Xenarc screen. Length probably isn't your problem.

for the power try making a circuit with a 12V 1Amp voltage regulator LM7012 i think thats the one to use and use to capacitors for filtering and connect this to the car battery if the brightness is better just install it to a relay to the Acc of the car. Hope this helps and if you need help in the circuit just ask and i send a schematic.

Update: My screen is dead. The TS works, but I no longer get the PC, AV1, AV2 source option, and the menu doesn't come up. Nothing at all comes up and the screen looks as if it is turned off

The power LED still lights up and powers on/off, but just no image. The screen was operating at a resolution 800x600 at 60-61 Hz.

Seeing that it's f-ed up anyway, I'm not so scared anymore of taking it apart.

Damn these things are sensitive pieces of equipment.
