And this is right. You should not watch television during drive. And no phone. And no cigarettes. I agree. These all decrease the level of attention or at least share your attention and also share the use of your hands.
I saw an accident personally, where the diver just wanted to find a cassette in his car box 'for a moment'. His head was under the windscreen line and meanwhile did not pay attention to the way. He tended turning right and finally crashed against a tree. Of course he died immediately.
Just imagine ANOTHER driver, watching TV while driving. What do you think about the responsibility of this driver?
To your original question:
As 2k1Toaster pointed out, they are independent. But contrary to his opinion I think RCA or Video is enjoyable. I use a cheap LCD TV in my car and can proove it is visible. Of course it has disadvantages (e.g. small letters are really blurry ), but there are few, who want to work on a 7" display...
I think it is better to try. Perhaps it will fit your requirements or perhaps not.
Of course, if the budget allows you, choose the VGA monitor.
